mag 250 throttling

by kenzz88

I know that my broadband is slow at about 7Mbps tested using my PC with wired ethernet connection. However I can still usually stream Netflix etc at HD 720p (Netflix etc suggest about 5Mbps for HD).

But trying IPTV using a Mag 250 using the same wired connection means it is only possible to get SD quality. I carried out a speedtest using the Mag 250's installed internet app and found the Mag only seems to achieve about 2Mbps ... which seems to correlate with getting only SD quality. I borrowed another Mag 250 and got the same speedtest result.

Trying IPTV on an old android box with STBemu and the same wired connection it achieved HD quality. Therefore it seems that the Mag 250 may be throttling back my broadband from 7Mbps to 2Mbps (I doubt it is my isp because I have had no throttling problems previously). I'd be interested to know if this is an issue with the Mags (I have searched and cannot find anything relevant). I want to use a Mag because I would mainly use catchup IPTV. Perhaps I should buy a new Mag 254 and try that?

IPTV doesn't work that way. Meaning whatever link your provider is serving up is just what it is, and it won't switch to a lower res for a slower connection (like YouTube or Netflix does).

I'd look into the video output as the culprit.

check your cable, router, NAT, Firewall etc, 7mbs should be no prob for any device.

The other are right, it's probably not the mag.

Out of curiosity, were you using the exact same service in all of your tests?

If your tests are showing Netflix works on some devices but your mag is using other services that are not Netflix, then you aren't comparing apples to apples...
