Halleluja! Finally one of the providers joins this century.

The question is, are they using this simply to halve their bandwidth, or are they using it to provide double the quality at the same bandwidth. They say it will increase quality AND reduce bandwidth. H265 gives approx double the bitrate for the same size. So they could effectively double the picture quality without affecting their bandwidth at all, or take the cheap approach and just use it to halve their bandwidth with the same quality as before. They could of course take a mid approach and up the quality a bit and reduce the bandwidth a bit....but the vast majority of people want better quality picture, not lower bandwidth (those that have slower connections already have the ability to use 720 and SD streams if they want lower bandwidth but those that want higher quality pictures have no options).

Hopefully they all follow. It should never have taken this long.

Are they planning to add catchup with this update ? I like them but it’s a very important feature they have missing while all competitors have it

Finally, a provider is going the extra mile. Hopefully, this will be successful and more will follow suit shortly. Low bandwidth users can rejoice.

Did this actually happen?

Ok2: announcement We will be upgrading our streams to h265 next week. This should increase quality and reduce bandwidth Mag 250 and 254 users will need to upgrade their boxes to use ok2

In other words if your box don't support H.265 then you will likely lose access to some streams.

There is also a rumour that the MAG 254 may receive an update to support H.265 but I personally wouldn't hold my breath on that.

MAG 256 may support H.265 but based on specs at Infomir, I don't see the information list in codecs, but MAG 322 will be ok.

Edit: MAG 256 is supported

Unaffected boxes: Dreamlink Buzz New MAG Boxes.

Great to see a provider pushing forward with h265. I wonder how many channels this will cover
