Its not the provider, its the box itself. Buzztv 3000, z7+ and dreamlink boxes all support recording of iptv.

Most providers do not support this feature. You need to get a special box like a Dreamlink that has the software to over ride those blocks. Seriously how hard is it to torrent what you want? You'll get MUCH better quality than the bitstarved content that your provider has. On a side note, check to see if your provider has catch up. Most do, which will allow you to watch whatever show you missed up a week later.

Recording is fine on Enigma2 boxes, if only 1 connection with a provider, set up record from epg and watch a different source on them etc.

anyone know if it's possible to record using a fire TV? probably not with a firestick right? i have both. fire tv has a usb port i believe.

If you have the chops I'd recommend setting up a linux box/vm on a desktop PC and running tvheadend. You won't necessarily get a cable/satellite experience, but it works well. I use the web interface for setting up auto and individual recordings (and sometimes the android app) and then have Plex setup for playback of the recorded shows.

Another nice thing going this route is you can adjust the channels - eliminate the ones you don't want and order those you do as you like. I use Perfect Player and point it to the channel list and EPG endpoints on my tvhe server. I also use Schedules Direct. The only thing that could be better is if I had record and playback from one interface. I have tried to persuade the Perfect Player dev to work on adding some of these things but he is not the very receptive to the suggestions.
