FabIPTV and TVHeadEnd?

by watsee

Having a bit of trouble setting up TVH with FabIPTV, wondered if anyone could help.

I’ve added in my m3u file and the muxes populated instantly, but they’re not scanning. Or don’t appear to be. They’re stuck on PEND and have been for some hours now. Nothing appears in Services.

Do I just wait or have I done something wrong?

Using latest TVH 4.2

I am using four different services with tvheadend, and two hdhomerun boxes for local channels, running into Emby and then into several Roku boxes.

If the file format fab is giving you does not have a format in it that tvheadend knows, it will not scan them, or all fail. Under DVB Inputs -> Networks -> Add. Select IPTV Automatic Network. Put the link in the "URL" box, Scan after creation should be checked. Make sure you set "Maximum # input streams" to the number of steams at one time fab lets you use. If you leave it at 0 it will try to connect a ton all at once - and that could leave to banned.

Also Look under the status section to see what it is doing.

I have been using Vaders with TVHE for some time and with the recent "issues" Vaders had I lost many channels. I decided to scrap my Vaders network and start from scratch with the muxes/services because I seemed to have a similar issue where I just could not get channels picked up. I started playing around and I think at one point I enabled the bouquet (somehow it was disabled) and then things just started scanning like crazy. So if you have your network setup to create a bouquet, double check that it is enabled.

If you check all these things and nothing seems to work, you can always restart the TVHE service or reboot the box running it and see if that helps.

Good luck. Hope you can get it going, as I think you will be pretty happy with it once you do.

Curious what hardware you're running TVH on. I'm looking into doing this myself.

Ok so..

I have got the Muxes scanning yayyyy

They only created services for a couple of the VOD streams... nayyyyy

I've stripped out the links to the TV/Movies (VOD) stuff and just left the TV channels, but its still only successfully scanning a couple. Is there a way to get more channels scanned successfully?

I went through the painstaking process of IPTV with TVHE at the weekend and came across a very simple method without scanning any channels whatsoever.

With Vader however I couldn't find a way of omitting the VOD content which was pain in the ass so I found a script which downloads and edits the m3u and just keeps the categories that you want, as without it there were something like 19k entries which is ridiculous, the script is here : https://github.com/jjssoftware/m3u-epg-editor

You can see from the code its not doing anything dodgy with your info.

The important thing to avoid the entire scanning process is to select Automatic IPTV in the mux, UNCHECK scan on startup, and set the service ID to 1.

It takes a matter of seconds now, compared to bloody ages it was taking before, Im running TVHE on a Pi3 and then watching via Kodi clients, pretty impressive now its all working.
