Depends on your provider.. if they are using sop cast or acestream then it is p2p streaming. You probably want to avoid those
I've got 15 down/maybe 2 up and no issues. Unless it's p2p upload don't mean shit
Just witnessed this on an IPTV providers discord. Didn't chime in because I'm ignorant to what is needed and hoping someone can explain. Google as well as iptv sites and forums say you need more download speed but the provider here is asking everyone with issues what their upload speed is and not download. I thought it was odd, can someone explain why you would need as much upload as download?
Edit: it ended with "ask Google" which lead me here..
minimal upload needed to send acknowledgement packets and requests for more buffer bytes once you go under the default 30s.
The only reason you might need more upload speed is if it low and someone on your network is constantly using the upload for any reason. Like dumping files to the cloud. Then you will suffer because what ever it is most uploading of files max out the link and that affects all other real-time packets. The solution if this occurs is to QoS your IPTV packets at the router to give them max priority and ask other people on your network to limit their upload speed with a firewall tool. It's the same for games.
I have 20 down/1 up and have no issues at all.
Complete and utter bullshit. Here is a graph showing the Private internet access interface on my firewall, which all IPTV traffic goes through. Yellow is the incoming, green outgoing. There is nothing going out (maybe a few kb due to the TCP three way handshake)
The 20Mbps the vendor is saying is if you aren't using your internet for anything else. Like gaming, downloading Torrents, and VoIP.
Any upload over 3-5mbps (dont think any decent ISP gives less) is fine, you send a little upstream traffic, but its small. Have a friend on 10 down/1-2 up, works fine with IPTV.
