Hey everyone I will admit I am new to this world. I am just wondering what the community thinks from experience what is the best set top box.
My only hard set requirements are:
Runs plex media player so I can connect to my server with decent remote navigation and x265 direct play ability
And puts out 1080p video
Not sure if this depends on the box or the provider but a good epg
Also I am in Canada

If you want the "best" the Nvidia Shield TV is the hands-down choice. Use a wired Ethernet connection and there is no better setup to be found anywhere.
So, I have a similar question but what if I wasn't looking for a Shield? I know Shield's are great and I am looking at purchasing one, but I'm looking for a set top box for a main TV that could potentially be taking the place of my current cable box.
If you want IPTV and KODI / Terrarium, Nvidia Shield is overkill. I have both Z7+ and BuzzTV 3000 and they do just fine. They both have their quirks but they are best value for the money. If you are into games too, then yes, go with Shield. My 2c.
if you use plex to watch iptv gracenote will be your epg provider and the only box I know that runs a server is the shield. But you could possibly download the server app from the playstore on a bunch of other boxes.
