Requesting help/feedback for IPTV setup

by ricak

Hello.

I'm leaving outside my home country and one thing that I'm considering is to be able to see my home country channels via IPTV.

My tv is an old Panasonic (p42g30e) and as far as I searched, it doesn't supports IPTV.

I have an iphone, a chromecast and an old RaspberryPi (MODEL B, 512MB).

So, at this point, I have two questions!

  • 1 - Would IPTV work over wireless? or does it need cable? (I have a 52mb connection)
  • 2 - (without buying additional hardware) If it requires a cable, I would have to use the Raspberry Pi. Has anyone tried this already? If it works with wireless, I would have to get an app for iOS with chromecast support.

Honestly, this doesn't seem very achievable or easy from my end... but I would like to know your opinion on this.

Any helpful information is most appreciated.

Thank you

Use your pi, install kodi and grab whatever you want for a service that supports kodi. Don't fuck with iphone shit, or chromecast. These are more headaches than what they are worth, especially with the recent changes to xserver backend. Most IPTV is bitstarved to shit, so 3-5 megabits is all you will really need.

Has anyone tried running Android on the PI, DL'ing STB or Perfect Player and VLC/MX Player and running it that way? Curious, thinking i may try it over the weekend

-Panasonic isn't directly supported.

-Iphone generally uses "GSE IPTV" app

-Chromecast is possible by casting from VLC media player on your device

-RaspberryPi supports kodi

1 - Would IPTV work over wireless? or does it need cable? (I have a 52mb connection)

Yes but not as reliable as network cable, although could be fine. (Get a free trial from your provider to test)

2 - (without buying additional hardware) If it requires a cable, I would have to use the Raspberry Pi. Has anyone tried this already?

-Yes, via Kodi

If it works with wireless, I would have to get an app for iOS with chromecast support.

GSE app on ios does not support Live Casting (only vod)

For iOS I think GSE iptv is the best app. For RPi maybe try libreelec build and install kodi addons from your IPTV provider (almost all of them have it), or just use the included simple Pvr client. For chromecast, I think you can cast from GSE to chromecast (at least on my android app version there's a chromecast button).

For the provider, wireless is usually not as stable as wired, but 52 Mbps should be enough. Maybe try to find provider with SD options so when the connection is bad it's more tolerable.

Blue-Thunder is correct.

Have you got a IPTV service already?
