I have a Vu+ Duo2 in the living room. I need a new device for the bedroom so I am looking at options. One option is the Vu+ Zero 4k. Another is the Z7+.
The downside based on my duo2 is it doesn't handle catchup when using suls plugin and the m3u and isn't really designed for iptv, its more of a proper cable/sat replacement box. Upsides are its a true TV box so no messing about with apps, you turn it on and it plays, and you can customise the channel lists to hide the junk and re-arrange the channels, so it just works, and its reliable, never crashes.
The Z7+ seems popular and seems to be a fair bit cheaper at £90 vs more like £148 for the zero 4k once you include a wifi dongle. However I read about issues with the epg which I would hope are resolved by now? and I don't know if this mytvonline app has the ability to remove categories you dont want to see and to rename and rearrange channels? Also not sure of the stability.
I am trying to work out whether to grab the Z7+, with the risk being I have not used a box like that before, or pay a lot more and get the zero 4k, knowing exactly what I am getting but getting a box not really designed for iptv again. There may be other pros and cons for the z7+ that I haven't thought of.
As someone who has both the Z7+ and the Zero4k, I would choose the Zero4k ever time! In fact, I'm planning to sell my Z7+ and buy another Enigma2 box for the second TV.
The Z7+ does catch-up very well, but the EPG issue not yet fully resolved and will likely never work like it does on an Enigma2. When I turn on my Vu+, the EPG is just there. When I turn on the Z7, I have to wait 3-5 minutes for the EPG to be "fully" populated...not really fully populated mind you, just the next 4 events on each channel.
Categories cannot be removed from the MyTVOnline app and channels can't be moved or edited in any way unless you use the m3u portal (which is useless currently as it has no XML EPG available) and edit your m3u with Xtream-Editor.
Speaking of Xtream-Editor, if catchup is your only major problem with running IPTV on your Enigma2, I would suggest using the Xtream-Editor plugin to load your bouquets. You will have to pay about $15US/year to use it, but you can edit your bouquets and channel lists right on the website and it allows you to use the Catchup feature that you can setup on a hotkey on your remote. Pretty slick and runs just like a suls scripted set of bouquets.
