New to IPTV and looking for some answers!

Hi everyone, Long time reader, but decided to post so I could get some help. I'm fed up with the cable companies and starting to look into IPTV as a few of my colleagues have mentioned great things. It's hard to find out where to get more info, but thought I could ask some questions here.

  1. Theres so many services out there and seems like it's hard to stay one is better than the other. What I'm looking for is possibly service for 3 tvs. I currently have an Nvidia Shield to try a service out on, but would consider purchasing a dedicated box or other android boxes for the other two tv's once I find the right service. Are there services that work better on certain devices as opposed to not?
  2. What boxes or devices are better ones to look into? What makes them better? I keep reading about Dreamlink T1 and T2... but some complaints as well due to lack of RAM etc? I don't mind dishing out a little more cash if the box will work as smooth as possible.
  3. My parents and wife will also be using it, so I want to make it as easy as possible for them. I've been reading mentions of EPG. Is that episode guide? If so, does this already come with IPTV subscriptions? Or is this something that is separate and is added on after? What would you say are some of the better EPG (EPG's?) to check out?
  4. Is there any free trials that I could check out that work with the Nvidia Shield Android device? Im also willing to pay a bit to try out temporarily.
  5. Which internet service provider is better to go with with IPTV usage? I'm based in Canada. Bell? Rogers? Reason I ask is, when it comes to using a service, if one gets flagged, certain internet companies might not really dive into whats going on vs others. Which leads me to the next question...
  6. Do you really need a VPN? Wouldnt a VPN slow down the speed of the channels or degrade quality? Don't VPN's have limited bandwidths? If not... what would be a good monthly VPN, IPTV subscription to go with ... and with Rogers or Bell is better?

Apologies for tons of questions, but hope I can get some help out!!

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read!

For starters, for a good recommendation you need to first decide what is the most important aspect you are looking to get out of your IPTV experience. Meaning do you value everyday stability first and foremost, or are you looking for the best picture quality possible? Generally speaking and outside a lot of hollow promises, you won't find anything offering both.

If you already have a Nvidia Shield that will function just fine as a primary box, and is capable of running IPTV just as well as any dedicated box can. APK formats have also come a long ways in the last year in making IPTV interfaces stupid simple. Basically, you'll just end up aiming your provider search at one type of connection method over another, with the added android benefit of not having to sweat any potential VOD needs (you'll easily find all that for free on more stupid simple to use apps).

You'll find no shortage of IPTV trials out there, but keep in mind that they are usually coming out of providers that don't tend to offer great month after month stability. Which the trials themselves usually play a role in, and why it's ultimately a double edged sword factor imo. definitely try a bunch out, just be mindful not to make one of the biggest "i'm in a hurry to start saving!' noobie mistakes out there and read too much into a 1 or 2 day test. Buy a month to start if you like something, and then at minimum re-evaluate that opinion after 30 days.

I'm US so i obvious can't comment on internet providers up there, other then my universal recommendation that whatever you do pick for a provider/box...make sure it's running on a wired ethernet connection. That alone will spare you a lot of selling the family and growing pains headaches, and especially if you going to be running a VPN in the backround.

Which on that note, VPNs will slow down your speed and picking a good one that only has a smaller impact on what's hopefully at least a 30mbps connection can be pretty key. I personally use IPVanish, mostly because it works for me and it's the only one I've ever tried, but I've read good things on Private Internet Access. Which happens to be running a killer sale through a highly reputable online charity store. $1 for a month if you want to give it a cheap try (you get both listed software products in the $1 donation bundle btw) - https://www.humblebundle.com/software/cybersecurity-software-bundle?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_4

Hey I’m relatively new to IPTV and have only been using it a couple of months so hopefully I can be of some help.

  1. I only use mine on one tv so I’m afraid I can’t help there, some providers offer multiple subscriptions for free, some charge more you’ll have to just search around.

  2. I got a MAG 322, it’s so simple to use! Plug in, run the software update, get a subscription and input their portal ID. I have zero issues with it, it runs very smoothly and comes with a simple easy to use remote.

  3. EPG I think is electronic program guide and in my experience comes with your subscription, some are better than others. I’m currently with flawless and their UK epg is great, it matches up my times and even gives me the program info but their US epg isn’t working so I just have to scroll through every channel and see what’s on or manually search each channel online.

  4. Pretty much every provider offers free trials, look at nearly any post in the sub comments and you’ll see people selling services. They usually offer 2/3 day trials some free some paid for a few $. I’d definitely do some research on providers, get an idea of what channels you want and from what regions then get trials with providers that offer those. I think I just got free trials for 2 weeks before deciding who to go with.

  5. I’m in Ontario with Rogers on a Rogers ignite bundle with 30meg down and unlimited usage. I have zero issues with them. Occasionally I get some buffering on channels but a reboot of the router and box usually sorts it, be aware that peak times like big football games, etc can put a lot of traffic on the servers and can cause issues. It’s not like cable where you’ll have flawless tv all the time.

  6. I don’t have a VPN and I don’t have any issues. As far as I know they can’t actually tell you’re watching IPTV just that you’re using a lot of data which may very well be YouTube or Netflix. They’re clamping down on it in the UK so my brother there has to use a VPN and has no issues but like I said, I’m in Ontario ok Rogers with no VPN and no problems.

Hey! I'm new to the IPTV world as well so I spent a lot of time recently getting as much information as I could before jumping on anything. I'm no pro but hopefully I can help you with some simple and unbiased info and answers

  1. Since you already have a shield I would look into the threads that have good info on maximizing your experience on the shield. It's undeniably the best device overall, but general consensus is that a dedicated IPTV box is better for IPTV itself. And since you're already half way there I'd look for some streams with trials and start playing around with it.

    1. For 3 TVs you might want to consider if you'll ever be using 2-3 at the same time and maybe (if feasible) set up an HDMI switch and run a cable. Otherwise you'll need some device at each TV. Most major services will have some way to set up multiple TVs and the good ones should have no issue with most devices
  2. Skip the T2, I was going to go MAG but then enough research pushed me to go Formuler Z7+. The difference in price is worth the extra to get enhanced specs on the Z7+. The T1 is older and I don't know if you can find genuine new ones these days, if so you'd want to be saving a lot plus ensure support. I'm not biased to any box. Took a lot of research and back and forth for me to settle with the Z7+ and I'm happy I did. My first box bricked within hours which happens if you're just that unlucky, but seller was reputable and I got a brand new one.

  3. EPG is live you TV guide on any cable service. All built in and some dependence on the stream provider. Everyone has their opinions of EPG this and that. Honestly, this is IPTV nothing will be perfect. Z7+ has been good once you get used to it and figure out how to use it right (quite easy). They will be slow and lag at times, but overall not significantly worse than my Directv used to be (even on the "latest boxes they'd give me).

    1. As for your parents, once you set it up and default the startup on Z7+ to myiptv, they will get it down.
  4. Internet, the faster the better, the more reliable the better. Use a wired connection when possible. Have a good router and at least 1gb ethernet.
