VLC Player is phenomenal for IPTV, except for the lack of EPG support(!)

by francois-

I am running an HTPC with Windows 10 and want to set up IPTV the best way I can. After having a clunky experience with Kodi and Perfect Player, I gave VLC a shot with low expectations. It is BUTTER smooth and extremely easy to personalize your channel list by using the playlist editor. The random play mode makes it awesome for channel surfing and stumbling on random programs.

This is exactly what I am looking for, except there obviously is no program info or channel guide. Is there a way I can integrate the EPG somehow?

I used to use VLC then i tried MyIPTV Player and its pretty good, it has the channels and the EPG plus I can use my media center remote with it.

Are you doing IPTV solely with windows 10 and VLC or are you using another device? I'm very new to this. Thanks

Can you use a gamepad or remote with it? Or does it need mouse/keyboard?

If your provider has playlist url and epg url, try this free Windows app it has recording ability: http://borpas.info/iptvplayer

App is in russian but has english controls so its easy to figure out.

They did a nice job doing a VLC skin. Right click and choose Settings - then select Expert mode. Under General tab you'll see epg url.

For timer recording right click and choose Scheduler. Enable it and create a new task.
