Free Trials Are Pointless

by fooali

There's no way a potential customer can fully gauge how good or bad a service is based on a 24/48 hour trial. If a customer decides to go for it it's usually blind faith and many providers don't allow weekend trials which makes it even more impossible to make an informed decision. i get it people abuse the system of free trials for the football etc etc but 24 hours is not long enough for a service to sell itself . you're prob better putting out a youtube video demonstrating how the service works.

Remember there's a reason major companies give out 3 month trials not 24 hours.

Pointless for you perhaps but i've used them for many other reasons other than just stability. I want to know things like:

  • How is the playlist laid out, how easily can i get to the content i usually watch
  • How is the stream quality in general, what bitrate are some of the sports streams at
  • How much VOD is included

They used to give out a week or two then people started abusing it

As I always like to point out on this...never underestimate the lengths countless people will go to not to have to pay for something. Too many people looking to leech, and on the flip side there no free weekend offerings (which is basically the days a provider is going to see the most traffic on their servers and especially if there is a PPV) is ultimately a win for the people already paying for the service.

But yeah, Gears/ReloadedTv still have the best trial model imo. Shame more providers don't have the balls to completely open their servers to extended free stress tests though, and/or care less about what that means for the potential reseller out there who would otherwise be trying to hustle every last buck by rapid firing out as many random free trials as they can.

I agree. I was close to subscribing to one of the service after a trial. The only problem was how they had arranged their content. When I searched for their fb support page, I was surprised with the comments over there. people were complaining about various issues and they were not getting any support. The trial might be good, but the service might end up being garbage.

True. I agree. However, our entry point package is £4 which allows people to test us out for a whole month.
