So I am living abroad and it looks like the only way to access much of the content of my home country is via IPTV. I have an androidTV (philips). I thought it was a matter of registering with an iptv provider, and feed in some url provided by them, presumably with some m3u playlist or something like that. Is that not so? Why?
But all the websites I visit, apart from being mostly amateurish/shady, in their instructions pages, tell me to go to _siptv dot eu slash mylist_ and 'upload a file'. What does that website do? Is it suposed to send a file to my tv in someway? How? how does it find it using the mac address only?
Another thing that is puzzling me is that all the sites tell me to to use smart iptv app... why is that so? does it do something that others don't? I installed an app called "iptv" by Alexander Sofronov on my phone and it appears to work. And what exavlty does "Avtivation" mean, I understand this app will only work after some sort of donation so it's activated.

You need to go over to their website, punch in the MAC address you see on the TV when you open that app, and then add the playlist to the website along with the MAC. This is Smart's way of controlling the purchase of the app which is about $5 after the trial ends. There is another app called Smart STB and they do the same thing, but charge closer to $20. It's an easy way to control purchases for them.

There are a ton of apps you can use that work on android, IOS, smart TVs and Windows PCs. Each app has its own way of being set up. The activation bit was more along the lines of what I mentioned in the 1st response. There are free apps (usually with ads), paid apps, apps that require payment after free trial, and apps that some IPTV providers provide for their service that are tailored to their setup..
