Magbox 254 frozen screen

by moving2ksa

Hello,

So this started happening since couple of days, I will be watching a channel and the screen will freeze and the only way to get back to normal operation is to our the power cord and back in.

Connected to a Samsung TV, disabled cec and still the same thing. Also it will go completely black screen if I leave the TV off and then turn it on and try resume the box via remote power button.

I have done a factory reset, updated to latest firmware but the issue still exists.

Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like it's dying. If you've factory reset it, and updated it to the latest firmware, it's on it's way out. You could try opening it up, see if you could attach a heatsink onto the chips, that might help. They are old units, and Informir no longer makes them. Mag 254 has been around for about 4-5 years, if not longer.

Yeah. I do not think it would a provider that would cause an issue like this. Sounds like some blown board or over heating

They are still making the Mag 254,and the Mag 254W1.

I also had problems with over heating bought one of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74qCn1ZT6sY

And that seems to help a lot.

This is normal, I have the same issue when using with Samsung TV's, I think it fails to go to sleep sometimes if you leave it on certain menus, just buggy firmware, I'm on the latest....
