IPTV Plex DVR Support?

by HarinderG

I was wondering if an IPTV stream would work with the Plex Live TV function, with the guide, DVR, and everything. I currently have the HDHomerun set up with my cable, but i'm trying to find a better alternative out there. I'm new to this whole IPTV thing...

It's possible using something like telly from GitHub. It makes your IPTV content show up as a hdhomerun to plex.

I got it setup and working and spent many hours to finally give up using IPTV with Plex and instead use emby (which has built in support for IPTV).

I'm able to get Plex setup and working great with my IPTV provider and then randomly Plex will start throwing unable to tune errors on certain channels while others work (the channels weren't down). A restart of the Plex server fixed this issue until it came back again later on. This was leading to what seemed like to me maybe a 60% reliability rating when it came to successfully recording tv shows I had scheduled. That just doesn't cut it.

I've had excellent results using emby and I urge you to at least look into emby. They've been doing DVR and tv a lot longer than Plex has and it shows. Plus you don't have to run a program such as telly to make it work.

No offense to the maker of telly and the other alternatives out there, mad respect to the people doing this. Heck for all I know maybe it's just me having this issue, but then again I have tested on two pcs and also before and after a clean os install and still ran into the issue. I feel like it's an issue with Plex and not telly.

I use telly in conjunction with plex and it works fine, Recording sucess wise I`d say about 90% of my recordings are sucessful. It being iptv get the occiasional dropped signal which breaks the recording

You can set this up but just depends on how much time you want to spend on it. I have an unraid server that has tvheadend running in a docker that does the recording and kodi as the front end. It works best when you pipe the streams to ffmpeg so it will still record if there are drops. I tried both emby and plex and have had the best results with this setup.

If you want to just watch IPTV then yes stick with perfect player.if you want to record from IPTV then your gonna want to get emby or Plex working
