Does it have HDMI in and out? If so then treat your Android box like your old receiver. The PVR would then only record what display info it is given.

Donate it to some old peoples home. It's useless.

I used to have a Pioneer which I found was better than the Sony I bought later. Wish I had kept the Pioneer. :( You can always get a MyGica ATV1960 which has a 2.5" SATA port on it for a HDD or SSD to record stuff. I just don't know how well it works.

I had the same hunt a few months back. Sold it for a pretty penny on eBay.

The Shield Android TV on Android N and bellow allows you to record whatever is in the screen, it's a manual process though. No scheduler.

I think there are some video recorders app in the playstore too but I don't know how good they are

I have similar Pioneer

  • Mag256, no issues as it will take HDMI and COMPOSITE - Note - ONLY Mag256, 254 doesn't
  • Buzz TV, my other reciever - I have HDMI to Composite with a HDMI Splitter
