Shield and IPTV options.

by Buzz155

I’m moving to the GTA from a small town with crap internet speeds. Now that I have some better options I’m cutting the cable and switching to IPTV.

I’m going to be getting multiple devices. Probably a Couple Formuler Z7+ (unless someone can convince me otherwise) and a shield.

My question is about which app is the most wife friendly for the shield. I can handle the complicated set up. But I’m wondering which works the smoothest and has a decent looking EPG.

I know these questions have been asked hundreds of times. But these apps are always updated and changing. So any input would be appreciated.

I use Perfect Player on the Shield.

Second the Z7+...best cable-like experience

I use stbemu and like it. They have a free version with ads that you can try

I've tried so many with the exact same goal as you.... These are my opinions. Hope it helps. I had the Z7+ and hated it... the idea is great, but the execution is terrible.

Perfect Player -> By far the simplest to setup, use, and great interface (even with tiny remote)

Kodi -> Second best for interface, but a bit trickier to use

Live Channels (use TVirl to setup) -> Third best. Somewhat simple, not as good of an interface

Another option... Decent interface, but can do recordings -> ProgTV

Area 51 has their own app which is very shield friendly, If you have your own provider already try iptv extreme pro

I like progtv, if you get a different remote you can bind buttons in the app.

IPTV Smarters Pro will be a nice fresh up-to-date and simple to use app. It works really nice and has a nice EPG. Modern looking and some neat little options in there. Worth a look my man

I've been using ProgTV and been having surprisingly smooth results. It has the fullest list of settings I've seen in an iptv app including button remapping, multiple video player options, AND CHANNEL RECORDING . I think the design might be just as good if not better than perfect player but it might not be as simple to use as perfect. It has the most functional guide that I've used on a shield (almost every other player just can't seem to nail a full tv guide... Most of the other apps have a bug of some kind). The player has 3 different modes for epg and can change the color of the ui. You might need an mouse of some kind to remap the buttons to your control but it's amazing once it's set up how you want.

Formula or dreamlink. Nothing on the shield is going to be wife friendly including their small remote.
