Question for those using NextPVR, Emby, Plex or similar for PRV and IPTV

by saulin74

Hey guys,

In the past I used SageTV, Windows Media Center as PVR and I remember it was rock solid with STB Boxes.

Right now I can't find a reliable Android IPTV client with PVR support. IPTV Extreme fails me to record every time, ProgTV seems very unreliable.

Someone mentioned NextPVR and Emby. I decided to try Emby. I found it easy to setup, but recording needs a licence. I really like the guide and interface so decided to pay for a month $4.99 to test it. I scheduled a recording and it actually recorded everything fine while I was watching something else. I used Vaders.

Last night I scheduled a recording and it was totally missed. Same thing ProgTV usually does. I still have to look at the logs to try to find out why it did not record.

Now I was just looking into NextPVR. It seems to be free, so I might just test it out since it also seems to work with m3u playlists and xml files for EPG. Does anyone know how reliable NextPVR is with IPTV, does it support more than 1 xml link for guide?

Also does anyone have feedback on other PVR software with EPG that works with IPTV m3u/xml links?

Any recommendations on the few free available options?

NextPVR only supports one client at a time so you cant watch and record another program . like you i'm trying progdvb at the moment haven't recorded anything just yet will try today tho

I'm using TV-Mosaic (formerly DVBLink), works well but needs some improvements.

I use tvheadend to record and proxy to my local devices, took a bit to get going but now it just works. Kodi has a decent tvheadend client for playing back recordings. Never did wind up getting it integrated with plex.

Ive got NextPvr set up for use with Smoothstreams and I have been blown away with how good it works.

I have the recording service running on my laptop and and schedule events from my phone (nextpvr paid app) or from kodi or from the laptop. It has been flawless so far, really impressed with how well it works.

Sounds like you already are about done making the testing rounds many of us have having before drawing the conclusion that DVR'ing IPTV on the user end works a whole lot better in paper theory then it does in consistent real world practice.

Honestly/FWIW, your best bet is probably to just get past the concept of recording IPTV altogether and look into services that offer a catchup feature on some or all of the channels you might need it on. What isn't Vader's covering for you?
