[lighthearted] Things you've learned from IPTV...

by bosiequartet

As someone who lives in neither the UK or USA, this is what I've learned.

  1. Every 2nd ad in the UK is for a payday loan company, and every other is for online betting
  2. Until Viagra and Cialis went off patent, every second ad in US pro sports was for one of them
  3. American fast casual food places look amazing and cheap
  4. American car lease deals look amazing
  5. US political ads are absolutely brutal. Like, wow (for us from the british commonwealth)
  6. Arabic sitcoms (for when I click on the wrong Bein link) have the worst production values ever
  7. Serbs/Croats sometimes show cooking shows on their sports channels

Any other insight from the wonderful world of IPTV?

The side effects from American medicines seem to be 100x worse than the original ailment

I see American commercials as horribly unhealthy fast-food, followed by various health insurance and medication commericals. Makes sense I guess?

I've learned that there must be a huge epidemic of toenail fungus in the US.

Standard American tv make such brutal cuts, sometimes the movie narrative is completely lost

Ive experienced many tests of the US emergency alert system randomly when watching something

For some reason PS4 restreamers have certain adverts covered up with commercial break in progress

People get shot all over America, all the time and the News tries to make it relate to you and scare you

US News is 100% Trump related,100% of the time

Infowars is absolutely batshit crazy, a mix of lies, conspiracy theories, race and gender hatred with sales for didgy vitamins

The Dutch have such good English, they dont even bother with subtitles most of the time

German TV dubs everything into German, so does Spain and Italy

American cable TV channels are mainly unwatchable due to the volume of ads

What is that American real car vending machine advert. Does that really exist

If you watch UK TV channels during the Weekdays in the Afternoons (UK Time) then you will also see endless charity appeals, all wanting about £3 a month from you, usually to bring water closer to the village in some far off desert. Personally I think it would just be easier to relocate the Village closer to the water.....

US channels love those annoying overlays and tickers advertising other shows.

I found out that British commercials put the price of toys in the actual commercial. Also British kids networks have VERY long commercial breaks. (Can you tell I have a young child?)

I've learnt that almost everything can be explained by the Ancient Astronaut Theory...apart from why Newcastle United are so bad - that's because of Mike Ashley (who may actually be an ancient alien...)

US DIY NETWORK Commercials every 5 mins!!!! I think some US networks are beginning to charge more for ad free like the good old beeb!

As someone who’s had IPTV for a couple months now, the main thing I’ve learned is that IPTV is an inconsistent, unreliable service with flaws its supporters seem to overlook because they’re at least getting it cheap. Even with top-tier fibre broadband, half the channels don’t broadcast; when they do they stutter, buffer or repeat the last five seconds over and over again till you turn it off in anger; sometimes, halfway through a football match that ended an hour ago in real, buffer-less, time, it also has the tendency to cut to random-ass channels or PlayStation logos. I’ve learned that maybe paying Sky isn’t such a bad thing...
