I'm getting tired of the issues with my dreamlink t1 so thinking about a vu+ zero 4k.
It would be strictly for IPTV. For those that own one:
How well does the timeshift and recording work?
How difficult was the setup? (I'm using Vader)
What the best place to buy one from in the US?
Thanks!
I have one, as well as a Zgemma H9T. I am located in Canada and getting one isn't easy. You will not find one in the US or Canada. You will have to have it shipped from Europe or, in the case of the Zgemma I had it shipped direct from China. I bought my Vu+ from a site called dreamportugal.pt and they will ship to North America. Total cost for me was in the neighbourhood of $200 US including shipping.
To answer your questions:
Timeshift and recording works really well. Far better than the Z7+ (which I've also had and still have a Znano).
Setup is the issue. This is not plug and play like the Formuler and Buzz boxes. It requires some knowledge of FTP clients and such. These are designed as satellite TV boxes for the European market, so you are basically hacking the box to make it work with IPTV. It will take some research and effort and there will be some frustration during the setup process. Once set up, though, to me, its the best IPTV experience there is.
Timeshift setup is not terribly easy either. You really have to tinker with the streaming options to get it to work really well. There are so many ways to customize these boxes with different images and skins and playback methods that it can be very overwhelming for anyone who is not very tech savvy.
If you need any more help, feel free to reach out to me.
Edit:
Another thing to remember is that these boxes do not typically have wifi and using a dongle is not recommended. If you can't hardwire to the box, I wouldn't bother buying one. If your modem/router is far away from your TV, you can use powerline adapters, but be sure that you budget for that as well because a good set isn't cheap.
