Focusing on plug/play and user friendliness, what hardware+provider combination would you suggest, for a technical illiterate grandpa wanting to watch german tv? Total cost is a factor. I am somewhat technical and can set it up initially, but it need to be able to run on its own for months without me having to do support all the time. Remote administration? Mobile app to configure?

Firestick and IPTV Smarters Pro. Very cheap, big , modern user friendly interface that automatically boots up as the Firestick is switched on. Very easy to use and understand :)
Easiest option is a mag box . Once configured its just plug and play. Refreshes itself with server. Just power it up, select the portal and off he goes
