Has anyone tried the new Fire Stick 4K?

by davidchance

Wondering how it does handling the usual IPTV apps, ie Smarters, etc?

I'm using the previous Fire Stick and am curious if it's worthwhile to upgrade? Its on just a 1080p TV so I'm not interested in the 4k or HDR features from Amazon Prime or Netflix.

Any thoughts?

Most of the worthwhile feedback I've seen thus far has been pretty positive, at least in terms of it being the best performing Amazon device you can currently buy (the suckers who bought that overpriced cube just keep taking the L's), and in the event you indeed don't care about 4k streaming.

That said and which I always can't stress enough....newbies (especially those not coughing up the money on a good router that isn't being provided by your ISP) using a wifi connection for their IPTV is pretty much a customer service headache waiting to happen, and that Amazon adapter for it is pure garbage imo. So personally and speaking strictly from the IPTV standpoint, I'd still ultimately recommend a cheap $35 china box like the Tanix T3 Mini before pointing people down the firestick route.

Take this for what its worth...

I got the Fire tv stick 4k a few days ago to replace my dead mibox. Ive had less issues with it than the mibox. The remote is wonderful. I loaded smarters onto the stick and have had no problems. I tried using perfect player but it didnt work very well. So far, for me, its been great. Should you upgrade? I cant answer that. If yours is working fine, then I wouldnt but if you are in the market for a budget device then the 4k is very nice.

Yes I bought one for my mother and I used the apps2fire app on my phone to put the IPTV app on it. She's enjoying it. She also likes the volume and power controls on the remote. The UI is not great, it takes a few presses to even get to the apps you own. Overall it's a quality stick but I'm not sure if it's worth the upgrade. I've never owned a Fire Stick before.

The firestick is a replacement for the fire TV box

The new stick is a replacement for the fire TV box not the 2nd firestick,

If it's just for IPTV I kind of doubt it, I use perfect player on the first gen stick and it works fine. The new stick could be useful for VOD apps like Kodi and Terrarium , etc with being able to play HEVC video but again if all you use it for is IPTV it's probably not worth it

...Unless you want the volume buttons on the new remote control :)

Don’t know about elsewhere but Amazon have been sneaky fuckers with this new 4K Firestick. If you want to buy one in UK direct from Amazon it’s either the 4K or the 1st gen. The 2nd gen isn’t available here. Not only that but the first gen is £40 with the 4K being £50.

Running Perfecf player and helix app. Saw a big difference in epg load time. I have the double helix plan, US, internation, and vod. In PP it boots to channels in 8 seconds and epg is finished loading in 1min8sec. On my 2nd gen firestick channel boots up in 12 seconds but took 2mins8secs for epg to finish loading. Starting to use the helix app and channels and epg loads is quick. Scrolling through the live with epg there’s no lag and preview channel loads quick.

Everything just feel snappier, loads faster, and I love the remote.

I have tried this, but the remote still has some problem to control the volume of my TV, so I use the old remote with the attachment named SofaBaton to control my streaming devices.
