Can you use HDHomeRun prime 3 tuner on Nvidia shield with iptv ?

by Magik2Three

Hello,

I'm looking at buying a TV tuner that would allow me to use my Nvidia shield and cable company card along with IPTV. The HDHomeRun prime 3 tuner unit allows you to use a cable card with your TV provider. But I'm not sure if it would work with IPTV as well. I've read different things opinions on the net and would welcome any feedback!

Thanks

Yes HD Home Run works with nvidea shield, watch LonTV YouTube channel for more info.

HDHomerun has nothing to do with IPTV. You can get it through another app in the Shield. It is possible to run it through Live Channels too via tvirl, which would combine your HDHR inputs too.

Yes you can, but you are a little confused, let me elaborate.

You will be using an application found on the Android TVs (Shield and Mi Box for example) that is called Live Channels.

Inside that application you have to add "channel sources" which in the case of an Hdhomerun will be a network tuner.

If you want to use some kind of IPTV, let's say a .m3u playlist, you can install an application called TVirl (which I have donated to because it's just so crazy nice) and that TVirl app also is a channel source for the Live Channels app.

After you have configured that, both your Hdhomerun and IPTV channels will appear in the Live Channels app, and you will use that to watch television.

My opinion, no. The tuner requires a cablecard to work. I am not aware of any IPtv providers who work via cablecard. All of them operate via IP/Ethernet not coaxial
