Well time to walk away. It was a good run, but seriously if this is their attitude, fuck Informir. Telling people what they can do with your product after they purchase it, is wrong. It's mine, I will do whatever the fuck I please with it. At this point the only way MAG devices will be saved is if a custom firmware can be created to get around this block, and then for everyone to disable autoupdates. Then we just have to hope that they don't have a backdoor.
In the mean time, I guess it's a great way to ensure everyone upgrades to something better. I have a feeling that the Z8 will be massively overpriced now that this has happened as stock won't be able to keep up.
I personally was going to replace my MAG 254 in the new year, and this move has just ensured I will not be going with another MAG product, and nor will anyone I help.
Custom firmware will no doubt emerge if this becomes a big issue
Time to move to STBemu, you get the same MAG experience on any Android TV box
Have to agree why would you by a mag other than this? It's a pity I love my mag for the simplicity does what it says on the tin and unlike android/E2 iv never had to tinker a setting / delete-reinstall a script infomir must know this will kill there businesses. How long before others follow though like formuler take mto away and it's just a cheap android box
The EU is a shithole.
"Manufacturers are responsible for what end users do with their product"
What a heap of shit.
There are Chinese clones of the Mag boxes available, which Infomir warn the consumer about on their website. Ironically the Chinese boxes probably don't suffer from the same portal restrictions, so basically I imagine that all of the Chinese manufacturers will cripple the firmware update facility (or even create their own F/W) so they won't be blocked by any blacklist updates. So indirectly, they have potentially increased the risk of creating a sudden niche consumer demand for the counterfeit boxes. I've witnessed exactly the same happen several times with Electronic component allocation, when genuine product went on a long lead time or became obsolete, the Chinese took the opportunity to flood the market with their goods and consumers were more than happy to take the risk and buy up the stock.
I have gone to the inner portal and disabled auto updates, hope this will tide me over till a more permanent fix. I have an LG smart TV and firesticks as back up but prefer my MAG. Have I done the right thing disabling auto update
So does it just block access to the portal?
The box is still useable and I can change to a different portal or is the box bricked on my end and no portals will work until it’s resolved with me as a customer?
I got one word for people wanting to solve this issue, that word is dreamlink.
Let's protect the broadcast tv industry rather than forcing it to evolve. Europeans are such pussies when it comes to allowing free market competition to run its course for good and putting the consumer first.
Iptv is a great technology that gives customers access to products they can't and have no intelligent reason to be restricted from.
Maybe I'm old but there was massive hysteria 20 years ago about music piracy and Napster killing the music industry then torrents killing movies and gaming.... And here they are larger and more profitable than ever and legally distributed via things like Spotify and Netflix, Xbox Live etc.
Would this affect stbemu?
The workaround is to downgrade firmware, I receive the block message today so I downgraded from 2.20.05 to 2.20.03 and it’s all working fine again. Don’t forget to turn off auto-updates.

A good way to kill your product.
