"I run it through an Nvidia Shield, hardwired, and have practically zero buffering."

by reddit_dis_dik

I found this quote somewhere. My question is... I have a Smart Android TV, fast internet, yet I can watch something and then a minute or two later it'll start lagging. Is there anything I can do to remove the lag?

What does "nvidia shield" and "hardwired" do?

Nvidia shield = Best Android TV device to date with best performance, OS support and compatibilty with receivers/codecs/etc (so you can discard issues with those)

Hardwired = Using LAN cable, so you can discard issues because of poor wifi performance.

So you only end up with 3 variables for buffering: your ISP, Connection between your ISP and your IPTV provider, and the IPTV source

Before you jump aboard making a purchase perhaps you should try to work out what is causing the problem. You could buy a shield and end up with the same problem :)

Try hardwiring the TV See if the TV or app has hardware acceleration or software acceleration Try a different app on the TV Try your IPTV sub on a different device (connected to your WiFi or hardwired)

Might be a good question for r/HomeNetworking . Obviously read the sidebar there before just cross-posting this post though.

You might be dropping packets, or could have congestion elsewhere in the network that's causing problems.

Are you hooked up wireless ?? Of course you will experience buffering. I have 1 gig speed the most I get wirelessly is 490. I have the shield too hardwired. Also I still get buffering. You could be getting so many things going on it’s impossible to say. You could be getting packet loss. Jitter issues. You could have noise on your line. You could be having a problem with your provider. The only way to tell is to have 2 things side by side and test that way. Always test with the hardwired. Never test your connection wirelessly. It never hurts to have your provider come out and. Take a look. I am an engineer for the biggest internet provider in the USA . I build the routers for the internet. We use arriss routers and Cisco. All that it consist of is an upstream and downstream. And cards in the routers for both. A lot of things come into play when you talk about problems and the internet. Speak to your neighbors see if they are having issues. Cannot tell you how many times in the winter when someone’s heat kicks on it kicks back noise into the plant which can shut a node down if bad enough. Could also be the ITV service you are using.
