My dad's thinking of canceling his sky subscription and going for IPTV, my question is: is there any need to?

We have a computer hooked up the TV already and this could be used as a media server but I'm wondering why someone would go for IPTV over using free services like popcorn time?

Storage wouldn't be an issue (and in fact storing torrents would probably be more desirable for accessing films) and popcorn time deletes the torrent after you've watched anyway, so is the only advantage live TV and a fancy UI?

IPTV is great but it's never going to be 100% saying that it's a fraction of the price of sky and for me 99% of the time it's glitch free.

Try before you buy

Most providers will offer free 24h trials

Some providers allow more than 1 similtanious connection

Different providers offer different content such as:

VOD, Adult Channels, Foreign Channels or Spots Channel packages and PPV included

Do your research and if you do buy try a small subscription 1st 1 month - 3 month rather than 6 month or 12 month that way if you do get any issues or you not happy for what ever reason it's goodbye :D

You do get it cheaper buying a full year compared to monthly but i don't think its that much.

keep in mind you might need a vpn still depending on isp or your countries laws!

IPTV and torrenting go hand in hand for my familes needs

I still Download many torrents but I'm more picky about what files i go for as to what i want to keep :)

70% torrents

30% IPTV

100% happy

I run a plex Server. 1000+ movie library, and use an IPTV plugin. It has a lackluster EPG, but it does work. Can watch my movies & iptv on demand, from any device, anywhere.

That's basically what I did. I realised that I wasn't really watching Sky as I download shows with torrents. I just have freesat and torrents

But I like F1 so I got a cheap IPTV for that. Does your Dad like live sport as that is the best use of IPTV in my opinion.

If not save the money and just use the apps like Popcorn Time, CyberTV, Cinema HD etc. Or learn to use torrents and Rarbg site.

I've got a pretty "standard" combo of IPTV and real-debrid/Kodi - movies on Kodi, sports on IPTV. My IPTV also has a small (120 or so) VOD selection. That's in my view a relatively good option for your dad to consider. I watch a LOT of live sport but it's nice having the latest movies on VOD for a lazy Tuesday night as well.

I also like the way IPTV takes away "search fatigue" like I get with Netflix; I'll just scroll the UK Sky movies channels sometimes and watch whatever is playing rather than spending 20 minutes searching Netflix and giving up!@

r/torula offers a week trial and we are cheaper than cable.

I use Helix ... and have done for a long time now. UK channels and reliable. Great customer support via tickets on their website and works on pretty much any device or platform you can think of.
