Not exactly IPTV, but im thinking someone here will know...can SD be converted to HD with an adapter

by yerdunclelarry

My friend is arguing with me that you make SD into HD. I know there are converters that exist, but what does it actually do? Does it just upscale the the SD to a low quality HD? Would i be able to hook this convertor to my SD sattelite reciver and make them show as 1080p on my tv? Would the frame rate be the same 60fps as I am getting with my HD box? Not sure where to ask this question so i figured i would start here...

You cant add pixels that arent there. sure it can try to upconvert it the best it can but wont be totally HD or even 60fps.

Think about enlarging a photo. With a good quality photo you can enlarge to twice the size and you still have a good quality photo. With a poor quality (say from a newspaper), if you enlarge it then it will look even worse.

Going from SD to 1080p is like enlarging a normal 6 x 4 photo into a poster. You can do it but the quality us not going to look very good.

Simple answer is No. that’s the equivalent of trying to convert something into a format that isn’t possible.

He’s talking about upscaling, checkout DVDOs line of products. I’ve used them for years, it really works, though not true HD, looks loads better than the incoming SD signal.
