Is the Shield that much better?

by acheney1990

I just ordered an Nvidia Shield after hearing so many good things about it. I'm not much of a gamer but hoping it improves my IPTV experience. I currently have the Jetstream Android TV box. It's not bad but kinda buggy now and then and I do get occasional buffering. Is the Shield really that much better?

Shield is my opinion is the best Android TV period. It good at everything from media to gaming.

Yes.

Well, if you get buffering now...you can pretty much rule out the box hardware end of things. My cheapo $30 android box is not as good as a shield overall...but paired with reliable iptv...works just as well. And on the other hand...pair the shield with an unreliable iptv source...you got a nice box w/ shit service.

Yes.

I had a T9 and some other custom box (which is pretty good)

Just got a shield two weeks ago... It is so much better.

I always say, buy once and be done. There is really not much it can’t do. I use both my shields for iptv.

It is a great Android box for streaming and gaming. But if you will mostly use it for IPTV, it's good but I think IPTV box like MAG, Formuler, Dreamlink is way better for IPTV.

Also, add USB 3.0 drive to be able to use it as DVR.

If you bought the shield just to run IPTV then you have wasted your money IMO. It wont give you any better of an experience than say a Mi box/firestick etc.

For IPTV only, a Formuler Z7 or Z8 is the best box on the market due to their IPTV app nothing comes close

I have a minix u1 and find that it does an iptv job as good as my friends shield. Most of the non-cheapo boxes $75+ do an excellent job.

Trust everyone of us: you won't find anything better than Nvidia Shield TV.

Every IPTV app works lot faster than on any other Android box. About the gaming? It's simply the best!

"Is the Shield that much better?" - Yes, it is!

If your not using the gaming features of the shield, why buy one? An STB would of probably suited you better. Not only do they have better remotes, the whole IPTV experience is better on something dedicated to it, rather than a gaming console.

I don't know what your circumstances are but as for me the shield has greatly improved my IPTV viewing experience. I use Eternal TV and coming from the Fire TV Pendant and Mi Box with a slow DSL service topped at 6 mbps. So to say I had buffering was an understatement. Last week Best Buy had the shield on sale so I said what the heck and bought one. Let's just say I went back and bought another one. ABSOLUTELY NO BUFFERING even 1080 HD Channels. I am completely impressed and satisfied with this device. Now I can cancel Directv Now. Hope this helps.

Did your Shield arrive? Are you happy with it?

Got Original Shield, decent IPTV service and a Logitech harmony remote .

Integrated the IPTV into Live Channels using the Streamin DVR app. I have favourites channels on my harmony remote, I can tell Alexa to switch to any channel and I've programmed the Logitech buttons with the commands I want, including a Google assistant button to allow me to open any app with my voice.

I also have HDhomerun tuner to get all the OTA channels in case the internet goes down.

It handles 4K UHD and had Atmos support (although not on Netflix yet, Prime does) and you can also run a Plex server on it

You can stream games from your PC to play on the TV through Shield, or play directly on the Shield using the Nvidia streaming service (currently free beta).

Plus I've got over 5tb of retro games loaded onto an external HDD running HyperSpin (every console from the 8 bit era up to PS1 and Dreamcast). This device is an absolute beast.

But like others have said, if you just want IPTV, most android boxes will do the job.
