Beginners guide?

by parnaby86

I'm new to the world of IPTV. I'm not a total noob, I've been using XBMC/Kodi/Streaming services for years but this is my first delve into IPTV. Is there a beginners guide somewhere that I can read to get info on providers, hardware, software etc?

If not, please can someone point me in the right direction of a provider and hardware/software that can do the following:

Has sports channels, specifically ifollow and sky sports red button. Not interested if it doesn't have these. A sports VOD or catchup section would be very handy also. Somewhere I can watch UFC, boxing etc after it has been aired.

I want to record streams to an external USB HDD. I would like to be able to set future programs to record, is that possible? I would like to be able to record one channel and watch another channel, is that possible?

I have been recommended StreamKings and SportzTV (DurexTV) would these be a good choice?

Budget is no issue.

Thanks in advance.

I don"t know about a beginners guide but I can tell you what my set up is and a few things to watch for from my experience. what devices are you planning on streaming this from? Windows, Android box, Android TV box, Apple? or other. Personally I use 2 Nvidia Shields and a PC for recording. I use an app called TiviMate on my Shields for EPG and Playback but there are others. On my PC I use Nextpvr for recording and scheduled recoordings, but again there are others. For my recordings I use Kodi for playback.

I would recommend 2 IPTV providers. That way if 1 goes down for what ever reason you have a second one to fall back on. Definaltly use trials if they are offered. And the biggest thing for me is how good is their support. Are you going to have to wait to get answers to problems or can you get instant or next to instant answers to your questions

Just to put this up front for this paragraph, I am in no way affliated or promoting this reseller or product. It is just who I use and have been very satisfied with.

I use VaderStream as my main and LightStreams as my secondary and have been very happy with it to date. the reseller I use Vaderstream has almost 24/7 live support via their discord page. they also offer a awsome VOD service and bundled packages.

No matter who you go thru do your research and look for reviews.

You can find a couple of extensive beginner purchase and device guides here: r/iptv4us . Probably should be updating it more then I do, but the main point of it was to get a few help guides out there to point newbies toward instead everything else you'll find that tends to take a much more generic and reseller friendly approach.

As for your own specific needs:

- A lot of providers out there will promise you sports VOD. Nobody to my knowledge actually makes the consistent daily effort to maintain it (which btw and in all fairness can be a very tedious task to begin with with all the other stuff they have going on) in a sense that you can miss that late night UFC PPV main event and always bank on it being there the next day. At best you can expect turn around upload times to probably pass the "care point" as I like to call it: if days go by and I've already unavoidably seen multiple recaps on what happened through social media/live TV I tend to lose that same initial appeal interest I might of had in going back to watch it. As far as catchup in relationship to any other sports event if they are not being aired on a regular lineup goes, if it comes in a sports specific line up package, like say a provider's NBA feeds for example...that won't be covered period.

- Recording IPTV with any real reliability is probably the biggest white whale chases with this stuff. You'll find a lot of randomly scattered about surface recommendations of people claiming success, and it is arguably even a rite of passage that you try them for yourself, but at the end of the day nothing out there is going to even remotely replicate that same "set your brighthouse DVR to record" experience. Ultimately there is just too many potential fail points in trying to record something where even the smallest bump in the playback road can totally glitch out an entire recording. Basically, the surrounding reality there is that you check the ability to reliably record without seeing a notable amount of % fails at the door the day you cut that cord.

I have StreamKings - pretty good for the money. But you’ll need two subscriptions if you want to record and watch as only 1 connection is allowed.

Personally, I’d start by looking at /r/iptvreviews

Then, get some trials from /r/iptvresellers to gauge how good the service is, and if they’ve got the channels you’re after.

Watch out for predators by the way.

If someone suggests a service, check their post history. Not always, but chances are if they are frequently promoting a single service there’s a strong chance that the user is affiliated with the service and has something to gain by suggesting that service to you.

Edit: this is fine to find services in general, it’s just best to be aware when someone is promoting a service Vs. genuinely suggesting a service as a customer.
