Using IPTV on DSL connection?

by greertro17

I live in a rural area, without access to cable/fibre internet service. As such, I'm on a high-speed DSL connection with "up to 5 Mbps" download speed (the real case scenario is anywhere from 2 to 3.5 Mbps).

I'm wondering if anyone with a similar connection speed is using an IPTV service without major buffering issues?

I'm considering Beast or Vader.

For reference: I can watch YouTube and Netflix without much (or any) buffering most of the time. Kodi, on the other hand, buffers quite a bit from virtually any source I select. As such, I'm concerned that IPTV streams might face that same fate.

My understanding is that Netlifx and YouTube dynamically adjust the resolution during playback, which probably helps avoid buffering, unlike Kodi — where the stream you select has a defined video quality. I'm not sure if IPTV streams would do this, too.

Thanks in advance!

Whichever you pick, make sure you take a trial to check the service and see what the channels play like. Most will have SD streams which should be ok on your connection.

I'm on a 5mb DSL connection in a rural area. I use Beast on a Formuler z7+. It works about 90% of the time. I find I'm only able to stream one tv at a time though. I can't be watching something upstairs and downstairs simultaneously.

I find peak times it freezes a bit when there are a lot users on the internet in the area. I unplug my modem for 30 seconds usually 2-3 times a week to reset it and maximize my connection. It tends to always be the fix when it's freezing.

Edit. The built-in My TV Online app won't really work. You have better luck limiting freezing with a lighter player like Perfect Player on a small internet connection.

Am not sure but i think this also depends on your iptv provider . currently i use DSL and my provider is iptvclouds am not facing any buffer issue ,

i suggest you try any iptv service before you buy a full subscription and test it with your conx , vpn ext..

I’ve got 4 mb/s and mostly there aren’t issues. Once in a while, it might buffer a lot making it unwatchable and SD streams are definitely much better than HD streams on this connection. SD streams work about 95% of the time. HD streams work about 60% of the time.

IPTV doesn't adjust the bitrate like Youtube or Netflix unless you find a provider who can stream to you from a streaming media server. I get about 100 Mbps up and down and sometimes when the net is really bad congested in my area, I can get 5 Mbps to 10 Mbps and thats when my IPTV starts buffering to where it gets annoying. I wouldn't recommend IPTV with those speeds you currently have. Most IPTV streams that I have sub to stream at a bitrate of 3 to 6 Mbps average. You would need a provider that streams SD streams my guess as others suggested or run your streams through a remotely hosted Plex server.

5mb is not going to provide a very good experience with live TV. But since it's all you have to work with, might be able to make it work if you find a provider that offers most channels in a low bit rate. Most providers provide a free trial so try a bunch and see which works best for you. Also can ask them if they offer channels in lower bit rate for people with slower speeds. Offhand I don't know of any but I will check around and let you know what I find.

I have 3mbps DSL at my cabin. I have 3 providers at home. Only one works with any reliability at the cabin (and sometimes has issues during times of high internet demand in the area) and that's IPGuys. I purchased it specifically for the slow connection at the cabin, since they have many SD channels. As mentioned earlier, all of the "commercial" services like Hulu, youtubeTV, Amazon prime, etc. work fine because they adjust to accommodate my bandwith. IPTV oroviders don't do that, so trying to watch anything higher than 480 is an exercise in frustration.

Did yuo find a provider with sd channels? I have the same problem as yuo. Let me know, thanks

I wouldn't recommend Beast or Vaders with speeds that low.

Some IPTV services offer both high and low bandwidth streams on most of the popular channels. That's what I would look for. Also, are you sure there is nothing faster in your area? What about fixed wireless?

It's been some time since I trialed them but it was a service called like RocketStreams? That back then had all if not most SD channels like 480p. Good enough if you just want to be able to watch stuff. Again, not 100% what their links are anymore or if they've upgraded quality since, it's been a LONG time since I tried them. Maybe check this forum and see what they have around there that's more in SD quality: http://iptvtalk.net/
