Just how screwed am I now? M96X pro Android Box

So as a impulse purchase I bought a used android box off of Kijiji. My end goal being to set it up for my mother to use Netflix and Youtube (which she currently uses off her Samsung Bluray player currently which is kinda horribly slow) and also to subscribe her to a decent Canadian IPTV provider (with EPG). Welllll and that is where the problems began. I had no frigging idea that it seems that Netflix is crippled if you have a non- Widevine L1 supported device (which it isn't) so Netflix seems shittier than on the Samsung (720p? 480p?). Also the built in Youtube app on the device seems to do 1080p but the needs the remote which wasn't included only a shitty gamepad style controller so I grabbed the official Youtube app off of Playstore and it seems to only do 720p!!! christ!!!. I think I may get a Roku or Firestick with the same goals.. this thing just seems like shit. Might be fine if your only intent is using it with Kodi. Is there something I'm missing here or am I just better off with a Roku or Firestick (with the end goal being the same), which might be better (only need 1080p)

It would probably work fine with iptv but if your looking to do Netflix at any higher quality than 480p then you should probably get a firestick.

Look up the ATVXperience project. I use it on my "MQX 4k Pro" or whatever its actual name is, but everything works well on it. YouTube goes up to 4K, Netflix works, and it works with CetusPlay as a controller.

You’re going to want to dl Aptoide TV. From there download Smart YouTube App. It’s the same as YouTube TV app, but supports 4K for older devices, and removes ads.

Try the Netflix app from there too, HD worked last time I tried. I use Morpheus now.

Trust me you don’t need an expensive box, the one you have should run 4K easily. Also for iptv download Tivimate. Blows away any iptv app and features are being added weekly. A monkey can use it.

Only Nvidia Shield and Mi box are proper AndroidTV, all others are Android Phone OS crap boxes.

Put coreelec on it if possible Netflix works on kodi now.

First choice is Shield TV and second Fire Stick 4K. Don't waste money on anything else.

As someone else mentioned there are hacked apps that will fix your problems, but it sounds like you don't know what you are doing to begin with. Read some stuff on freaktab in the S905x sections, and educated yourself before you delve into this world. If you think it's not going to be worth your time to learn, just buy her a Shield or a Mibox or a Firestick (can't do IPTV on Roku no more).
