VPNs for IPTV

by forest61

Last night I found that my IPTV service had been blocked by my ISP because there was a Premier League game on at the same time. This is a well documented issue in the UK. However I activated the two VPN apps I have installed but although they appeared to connect to the VPN server they made no difference to the block. It was my understanding that by definition, a VPN service encrypts the URL of the IPTV service and hence circumvents the block which is dependent on "seeing" the blocked IPTV URL. Can anyone explain why VPNs don't always get around blocked URLs

I've had good results with NordVPN, if anything doesn't work just try tweaking the settings a bit, changing servers and server locations, older servers could be blacklisted so go with newer ones instead (the ones with bigger numbers).

I'm using NordVPN in the UK, There has been a lot of blocking going over the past week. Seems they are stepping up.That said Nordvpn worked like a charm, connected to UK servers. I'm with vermin btwI haven't heard of any UK ISP' blocking VPN use yet so i don't think its that. What VPN services are you using, free VPNs aren't good at all, very limited. what ISP are you with?

NetOps here-

Take it from someone who literally works in IT, and not some YouTuber who does not have a clue about NetSec. Their only agenda is affiliate commission from sign-ups of IPVanish, which is NOT the VPN you want to use!

Have you ever wondered WHY they all promote the same VPN? They pay the highest!

Here are some facts for you-

“No Logs” IPVanish Hands Over Logs to Homeland Security see here and here .

Mr. Gevirtz, in the above example, is a truly despicable human being and we are glad that he was caught. Many people, however, use VPNs to provide privacy for entirely legitimate reasons, and these people need to be able to trust the privacy claims made by their VPN provider. The most important of these claims is keeping no logs.

Private Internet Access (PIA) is one of the very few VPN companies anywhere to have proved its no-logs claims in front of a court of law – not just once , but twice !

Go and compare your favorites, including NordVPN here . Which I also do not recommend .

If you are receiving censorship, you can use something like Psiphon , which is a free and open-source Internet censorship circumvention tool . Not fast (maybe if you buy the premium service), and not a "VPN" so to speak, although it does utilize the technology, but it will get you around the blocks.

My general point is, do your own research and don't rely on affiliates to tell you how to stay safe!

Your IPTV Provider might be blocking VPN that is what causing it. Contact your IPTV Provider to allow you to connect with VPN.

I'm also in the UK and using Nord VPN which works. It has to be set to a USA server. Also did you check the VPN was actually working? I tried a free one once that said I was connected but my IP didn't even change

Can you say which service you have and what app you use?

I have 2 services (Helix & Target) both of which were patchy during the 1st half then went down completely during the 2nd and at the time I couldn't even log in let alone watch anything with or without a VPN. I have changed the DNS settings in the router a long time ago so not that.

I'm not so sure this was a block as such but I guess we have to see what happens at the weekend.

Same problem for me last night, mag 254 wouldn't even load the portal. I'm on sky fibre and thinking of buying a vpn router.

Sometimes you got to restart router get new ip for it to mask, computers are finerkly and I can’t explain it technical like someone else can but sometimes a restart then enable vpn will help bypass the block.

I use IPVanish vpn on my amazon stick £55 for the whole year with upto 10 connections per account so that’s sorted me and dad for iptv and my phone.

Yeah the guy from Jarvis hosting who frequents this sub said that isps try to block IPTV around game time. I'm using exotic and Jarvis and I have to say exotic is the absolute bollocks when it comes to sky sports football, main event and all bt channels. Didn't have to use a vpn for exotic but things might change. Jarvis needed a vpn just to log in. If you're using an android box super vpn works a treat and is free. If not there are cheap vpn accounts on eBay

I've had no blocks at all on my service and we don't even recommend the use of a vpn.

try logging into your modem router and change your dns to open dns or cloudflare then reboot modem

your isp can see what your doing because your using their dns.

isp dns also filter blocks pirate content as well .. piratebay etc .. and iptv

I use Torguard with no issue. 4.99 a month

I haven't see it in some time but would occasionally see a Cloudflare message saying VPN blocked connecting to my IPTV service. So it's not always the ISP sadly, so they're illegally streaming the channels to us and at the same time also paranoid of their streams being re streamed, especially around game time. So we're left getting fucked by both sides. LOL

A VPN can help unblock geographically restricted content so you can stay in touch with your favorite IPTV services from anywhere in the world. What’s more, a VPN can help keep your connection private from internet providers, hackers, and other third parties so they can’t see the websites you visit and the content you stream
