VPN makes my IPTV services buffer like crazy.

by redwingpiper

I have Expressvpn installed on my shield and when I turn it on my IPTV services are horrible. They buffer like crazy and half the channels do not load. When I turn it off they all work great. One provider has told me they have a VPN on their end so need to have one on mine. I'm new to all this. Any help appreciated.

I don’t even bother with a vpn for iptv. The only thing my ISP watches for is torrenting.

First of all, how does THEM having a VPN help you? You're still connecting to http://NOCableIPTV.tv , a clear as day address for your ISP to see. Anyways.

Just how fast is your internet, I'm assuming since you're here in this sub you know your internet is fast enough, but just know that behind VPN your speed will usually be cut down to sometimes 30%, have you done a speed test with VPN turned on?

Some providers outright block VPN users, probably to deter restreamers, take the address to one of the channels that isn't working and put it in a browser, if a Cloudflare message pops up saying you're VPN is being blocked then it's your IPTV provider themselves doing it.

I don't know ExpressVPN, you say you're getting a lot of buffering, which then isn't outright blocked. Ok, so try a free proxy address and browser app and try it through there. I use these lists for a few geo-locked channels that my IPTV providers have given me shit support for so now I stream them myself with a workaround. https://www.proxynova.com/proxy-server-list/country-us/

try changing your router modems dns to opendns or cloudflare dns then reboot the modem then try again.

Try changing servers.. It has happened to me before and even tho the speed was very high the server was having issues

Smoke24X

When you say try changing servers, do you mean on the vpn?

Pokey800

What speed are you getting with the VPN on and what speed you getting with it off?

If you provider has a VPN on their end then you shouldn’t need one.

Are you choosing a VPN location close to your IPTV server, most of them appear to be hosted at Worldstream(Netherlands)

I use Express VPN and connect to one of the London servers and have no problems watching my IPTV service with it connected and I only have the standard 38mbps fibre. Take a look at the protocol settings and try them on different options. Failing that contact Express VPN I have on a number of occasions and they are quite quick to reply and very helpful.

I got this offer and it's spot on on my shield , with both IPTV subs I have . And it's unlimited connections so it's on every device I own 😂😂

You stated: ‘If your service (iptv) is using a vpn you will get this problem. You can’t use 2 VPN’s at the same time, but if this was the case you would get nothing at all when you turn on your vpn.’

That simply isn’t true, you can use two VPN’s at the same time, alternatively please provide verifiable references for your assertion.

In the same post you then said: ‘You need to configure your vpn. Contact express vpn to help you set it up. VPN’s are not a click button and everything will be ok. Simple things like protocol or Adblockers can cause the kind of problems you are experiencing.’

Obviously that contradicts your your first statement, if as you say you can’t use two VPN’s, then no amount of config will make any difference.

I use cyberghost VPN and get 300MBs on speedtests

I've actually been randomly seeing this issue lately on my Shield. On every provider I have (well the 5+ I actually use), and regardless which of the 5 VPNs I have access to is in use (including Express). Started up about a month ago, after 2 or so years of never really having to mess around with anything on my VPNs other then switching servers. Unlike a lot of other stuff, I never dove into educating myself on the ins and outs of optimal VPN use though.

Comes and goes. One day it'll be fine, the next I'll go 4 hours with clock work 30 second or so buffering regardless what server I use and/or how great it tests out at until I turn the VPN off. At which point everything will play flawlessly.

Connect to fastest server. Fastest will have the lowest ping rate, so a lower number is better. Also try using Ethernet instead of WiFi.

If you honestly think your activities aren't being logged and all your ISP monitors is torrenting think again ..

In the US it's true you don't need a VPN to stream .. however regardless I would still use one simply to protect privacy and to ensure accurate logging and compiling of data can't be used to target IPTV servers...

Express VPN is one of the fastest around ! And I have zero issues using either that / PIA / Surfshark ... on any services I have used in the past and all my clients use them on my own 2 services ..

You know you only need like 15 - 30 mbs stable connection to stream ?

Anyone moaning that they won't use a VPN because it throttles their speed when streaming and can't stream properly .. either has it setup all wrong (pretty difficult to get it wrong) Has not tested their connection with nperf Doesn't do regular (bi weekly) power cycles on network hardware router etc ... Or doesn't understand the need to protect either themselves (dependant on country) or their service providers (not dependant on country)

You see if your providers get busted in another country because and agent in your country managed to track their ip blockit and find the owners ..

Then guess what ? Yeah you didn't need a VPN, but it probably wouldn't have happened if you had just considered the overall infrastructure of how your service actually works and that your laws aren't necessarily the same laws the provider lives under 😉😉

Food for thought maybe lol
