Recording IPTV on Android (Smarters or other) and using external storage?

I want to set recording for F1 practice on Android box (Tanix). Been having a look at Smarters as this app attempts to restart the recording if stream stops I think. I want to use external USB and when I try to change the recording location the USB isn't even there as an option?

I've tried formatting as FAT32 then NTFS. Even tried formatting on Android as internal storage and still couldn't see it to choose

Anyone tried this themselves and know the solution? Or can suggest another app that might work? I looked at IPTV Extreme but this was the same, couldn't see the external location to choose it

I've set my Enigma Zgemma to record but I know that is unreliable so wanted to have a backup. Neither of my providers provides catchup on the channel I want unfortunately

Easiest is to get ProgTV/ProgDVB on a Windows box.

Somewhere on the back of my mind I remember reading about issues on a nVidia Shield and a workaround regarding the mounting of the drive. I’ll see if I can find it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've set up TVMosaic on PC to test a recording

Also on Android box I went back into settings and found an option to Format as External Removable drive. Now I can select the drive. But..

Now on Smarters I can't work out how you even set a recording? Plus when viewing Live with EPG I can only scroll right a few hours. There is EPG for at least 24 hours plus though. What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: There's a setting for Full EPG and Smarters doesn't support scheduling a recording. So both issues sorted for now

I went thru this issue and I could not get a usb drive to work .. I would only plug in an external sd card and formatted to exfat32 and formatted it in android settings then was able to select it to record to in iptv smarters app

if you want timer recording so you can set it and go out use iptv extreme as it allows you to actually select a channel and what time to start and end recording .. so you set it then leave box on but turn off tv and go out and come back home and it will have recorded all the preset channels you selected.

iptv smarters only lets you record the channel you have streaming and set duration on recording .. it does not have timer and channel select yet.

1080 full hd is around 2gb an hour.. if you have a 32gb sd card can record many hours.
