What to look for in an android IPTV player.

by shokhorror

There are loads of IPTV players out there and apart from the look of the EPG, what features/specs should you look out for?

I've seen loads of suggestions but nothing based on specs.

Does anyone have any suggestions I should be looking out for?

Edit: just to make it clear I'm talking about software players such as Perfect Player or Tivimate etc

Perfect player all the way. I used to use tivimate but recent issues have frustrated me to no end. Everyone going on that the ui is great, it’s simple, has no catch up, no vod, just channels. I paid premium for this service and honestly it’s just too basic, you can’t even pause on it. Perfect player is easily customisable, you can search for channels with voice, has catch up, vod, pause function, you can horizontally scroll the epg, has pip for when your viewing the epg and still on a channel. I have no affiliation to either, however I must admit that perfect player is far and beyond a million miles better and that’s just the free version, plus it has a customisable ui, and you can change groups, channels order the same as with tivimate.

Yes you can mate, just input your url into another url line in setup, I’m not at my box atm so can’t explain in detail. Basically if you save your url and then name it, you can choose between the two. Very easy to do. And again, same here, I had 3 different apps alongside tivimate, (it’s a hobby of mine finding the best service really) and no buffering at all on any of them. Have tried all the starters apps, tivimate, xciptv app (good layout my second favourite app) prog tv, stb emu pro, and many others, literally no buffer on any of them at all. Still everyone jumps on the tivimate devs dick anytime you slate his app. That app it’s just a rip off of live tv that all android devices have that require tv irl app to sort out 1st. Again it’s all preference but as someone who tries apps every week, perfect player is still the best of all of them. Takes some getting used to but when you do it’s just as easy as using sky (here in the uk) or TiVo (for you US guys). Have a good night peeps

Depends what your using is for. Gaming or Just Iptv. Nvidia shield is one of the best.

I have the 4k firestick and they work great for my iptv needs. Simple to run.

The Nvidia Shield has a Tegra X1 processor with a 256-core GPU and 3GB RAM.

The device has five ports: two USB 3.0 slots, one for Gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI 2.0 connection point, and a power port.

The firestick has: Memory (RAM)1.5GB DDR4System on Chip (SoC)MTK8695+MT7668CPUQuad Core 1.7GHz, no ethernet port and is cable of playing 4k.

It really depends, what you need.

If you want a player, that`s fast and very easy to use Smart IPTV is a great choice. It comes with the disadvantage being not very flexible (you can mainly just add favorites, which works fine for many users). Another perk is the fact you need to pay per device, so if you plan to use it on multiple devices, it will add up.

If you want a comparable player in terms of speed and ease of use, then Tivimate is a great choice. It comes with a great UI, you can add favorites, uncheck unnecessary groups, choose favorite player (internal, VLC, MX) even by group. If you have an Android TV device, you can install it straight from Playstore. For must users it`s probably the best choice now.

If you want even more features like catchup, then Perfect Player and IPTV Extreme might suit your needs. Perfect Player is not as fast as the above mentioned options and the UI looks really old on a TV. IPTV Extreme adds a great feature for catchup channels, since you can even download shows and movies. The UI is also not like the real straightforward Smart IPTV or Tivimate, which deliver a network like experience.

Personally I have settled with Tivimate as my go to player and IPTV Extreme as my catchup / download expert (I download straight into my to Shield attached hard drive, which then can be played in Plex).

If you're not recording Tivimate is your best friend. Best EPG and interface IMO. I use prog tv to do my records, you can also use IPTV extreme if that's what you want to do.

Use whatever recommended by supplier as they can advise on settings otherwise your own your own, I use perfect.

OTT Navigator not bad at all. Just testing it for the last 2 days. Seems better than Tivimate. If there is anything anyone does NOT LIKE about OTT, can you please let me know. About to 1 x pay for their Premium unlocked. Thanks.

Sylocule

I use TiviMate mostly and Smarters for catchup.

I use Tivimate on my Nvidia Shields. Not having catch-up is a non issue for me since I don't want the commercials anyway lol, have other commercial free apps for that.

Have used perfect player and most of the other main stream apps and always go back to Tivimate, just prefer the clean look and layout.
