New to IPTV... Few questions (Canada)

by crojoe

It all seems a bit overwhelming with tons of options to choose from, fake posts/reviews, etc.

I'm thinking of buying the Nvidia Shield to start off. Seems pricier but I want the best. I have a good wired connection and I'm located in B.C.

I don't even know where to begin in terms of who to go with. I used Kodi/Exodus a few years ago on my PC... I presume that since people are paying for subscription services that this is not the best option.

Primary uses would be some live Canadian/us channels, movies/documentaries and sports. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Are trials easy to set up once I have the box?

Thanks!

I wouldn't go crazy and pay too much. I've been with Helix now for over 8 months and at $6 or $7 US they are great. Also only pay per month. Do not buy 6 months or a year.

If you are only planning to use it for IPTV, you may want to look into a Formuler z7 or z8 or a Buzz TV box instead. They offer the best cable-like experience.

I uses TNT and love it, but I don’t watch any Canadian channels, so I have no idea how that would work. It works great with US channels. Limited buffering on a relatively slow connection. I really haven’t tested it during heavy bandwidth events yet.

I have an Nvidia Shield and love it - great choice for a box.

I don't only use it as only an IPTV box though, I actually now use it as my complete media center (Netflix/Prime/YouTube/Plex/MLB/NHL etc).

It's a dynamite little box and can do a lot.

I use Helix, and it's a great service depending on what you want - I use it for UK/US/CAN channels, and it's brilliant, and inexpensive.

I use the TVMate app with it, and it's amazing. Lemme know if you have any questions! Jumping into an IPTV service can be daunting.

Also a Canadian. I use a Mi Box and have had zero problems with it. I have posted a few times that I use MyIPTVNow or DreamTV. It is pricey in CAD dollars (around $30 CAD), but compared to most Canadian providers, it's a bargain. There's a lack of local Canadian channels. Channel switching is pretty fast, though the guide sometimes doesn't update fully until you restart the app. I recommend this service if you're looking for relative stability and no buffering. There is no perfect service, but having tried many, I prefer this one. One thing I will warn is while it's extremely easy to set up a trial (I think 3 days), don't try to trial hop as they appear to be under a unified provider.

Just as a newb myself (for over 3mnths now), best advice I ever received was...

Do a web lookup of providers, research each one you see as decent/worthy, then get trials, trails, trials with as many of them as necessary until you find the one you like (they're easy to setup, most have good support, and (IMHO) the trials you pay for (like $2-3) are usually the better providers).

Once you've chosen a provider (most here get 2-3 at once, as NO IPTV provider ever has 100% uptime. If we're being honest - most decent ones average around 90-98%, as every provider has bad days/weeks, and if they have them for too long...), then if you're interested in using a reseller (you DON'T have to - just that the good ones can give better support than the provider themselves at times), then research, research, research , them and find a reseller YOU like!

Beyond that, I agree that if this is just for IPTV, then the NS is a bit over the top (I initially just used my own PleX server, then gave the Fire TV Stick a go. Both worked great - I just liked the Fire stick best). Take a look at the other suggested options instead - and definitely agree with just getting 1-3mnth subs (bad days/weeks... ;-)

imo pick up a 4k firestick and a wired dongle for it. for 100 bucks it works great

download adblink so you can add providers apk's

then go out and try some iptv providers. as well as some plex or emby providers

that way all your bases are covered

im really liking jarvis right now for live tv, i have a wired connection and see no buffering.

for emby check out helix

If sports are not your concern, then I would either go with Helix or Prime. They are comparable, but Prime has a better EPG, and Helix has a couple of SD channels whereas Prime is mostly at minimum 720p. Additionally, if you like to have a distinction between Canadian and US channels, go for Prime. They have separate categories and separate channel feeds for Canada and US, whereas Helix puts all English channels together with no distinctions. You can find Helix for 7 bucks a month, and Prime for 10 bucks a month. Both services are MAC or m3u, your choice.

Helix as a provider. https://helixhosting.xyz/aff.php?aff=93

They have US/CA channels including catchup.

Buying a Shield is the dumbest thing you can do. IPTV is 720, with some choices at 1080. Only buy the Shield if your tv can't do Netflix.

Honestly you're much better off getting a dedicated box like a formuler or a buzz. Your experience will be much better and not limited to whatever the apps you use can handle (most can't do catchup, recording, etc)
