Unpopular Opinion: Smoothstreams isn't the best for socer

by FutureSailor1994

I'm buddy's house today to watch the Liverpool game. He has SS and my provider provided a better picture.

This was the first time I got to compare. First we compared the NBC Sports and my provider had the same if not better quality. The grass lines would blur/artifact on smoothstreams during pans.

But for TSN I had 1080p 60 fps TSN compared to his 720p and mine was unbelievably better. ***Side Note: I only found out about 1080p 60fps TSN the other day. It uses NBSN commentators for EPL. If y'all didn't know it's probably the fookin best you're gonna get for EPL quality unless you can get something 4k. Quality is really good on my 85inch Sony. Nearly cable good. And that's a big screen, so stuff usually looks bad but not TSN.

I never pulled up my Sky Sports cuz we got to the point where we just wanted to stop fiddling around and watch the game, but his Sky sports looked like Sky Sports on other services I've seen (weird unnatural 25fps motion maybe upscaled? Still not great)

I really wanted to love smooth streams, I even had a notification sent to my phone for their Twitter account whenever they would open up invites again but now I feel like I just gotta start searching for a better provider...again.

People focus far too much on the quality of the actual channels. People need to focus on stability. I can count on one hand the number of times SS has let me down in the past decade. I'm perfectly happy with the smooth and stable 720 60fps they offer. It always works which is the most important thing.

Why do you need to search for a better provider when your provider is better than SS? And who is your provider?

I’ve never seen TSN have 60fps on any provider. Wouldn’t even bother with sky or bt, nbc sports network is as good as you will get.

I can't spell soccer facepalm

Also, your friend might have missed other channels with different streams for the same match on SS.

I noticed this also. I got as many cheap trials as I could to compare before choosing.

So what is yours provider then?

I think you're being fooled with the 1080 60 fps stream, it's likely 1080i30 with motion interpolation to fake 60 Hz

Not even the TSN Go service offers FHD 60 fps

So... the rest of your commentary on how the picture looks is quite suspect now.

BTW I was watching the same match and SS offered the highest resolution available : NBCSN on NBC Gold 1080p30 , on ch 134
