TvHeadend
Or even better a Formuler box that can run MAC or m3u. Best of both worlds. And a world class proprietary interface. 100-200$, depending on model, but they all do the same function.
After researching this for months and trying to find the best solution for me, here's my suggestions. There are three options I would go for:
Emby: A media server like Plex but has native m3u support. You can put in your m3u playlist from your provider, put in the xmtlv (or use their built in one with extra metadata like posters and stuff for US, CA & UK, to create a Netflix-like feel for your live TV).
Plex: A media server but with support only for tuners like HDHomeRun. However, you can use a program like Telly or xTeVe to input your m3u into Plex. It will make your m3u playlist appear as a tuner to Plex and will allow you to use the Plex Live TV & DVR feature. You can also use Plex's built in guide data with lots of extra metadata for a Netflix-like experience with your live TV, similar to Emby.
NextPVR: Don't know much about this as I've never used it (because it only works with Windows and not Mac). But you have to setup the backend and then you can use the Kodi frontend as a DVR. Can't tell you much about this one but it is another option I know that works for a lot of people.
All of these options require some sort of computer to be running the server/backend 24/7 or whenever you want to access Live TV & DVR. You don't need anything fancy though. I've used Plex with Telly & xTeVe, and Emby, all through an on 2011 iMac and it worked well. However I would recommend Emby as I found the interface on all their apps to be better and easier to navigate. The channel zapping and loading was much quicker. Had less buffering problems on Emby (with the same IPTV provider). The DVR feature worked a lot better especially for series recording. Far more customizable on Emby than Plex (eg - you can add multiple EPG sources for Emby from different countries or regions, you can customise the channels a bit easier). The guide also refreshes faster.
Emby does have its issues with recording but their support team is brilliant and responsive, and they're always trying to fix issues and updating their platform. I would highly recommend them but I would also suggest trying all options to see what works best for your situation.
Easiest is Formuler Z8 has scheduled recording. Enigma2 boxes will do it aswell, likely better, but are difficult to get in North America (assuming you are in NA) and more difficult to set up.
ProgTV
Just get a proper IPTV box like buzz or a mag you can record to internal or external storage just buy selecting the shows on the EPG. I don’t think it’s possible on fire stick if it is would be very limited and require third party software.
Iptv extreme
Progtv
if you have a server available and you want open-source, then /r/TVheadend or /r/jellyfin
I use Emby just for the DVR feature. Super easy to set up with your iptv and it works great. IPTV extreme works well also but you can only record one program at a time with that.
I can recommend TV Mosaic. Have it running on a Synology NAS. Works with IPTV streams and records in .TS files to your HD. https://tv-mosaic.com/en/
IPTV Smarters can record - not sure about future shows, but I know it can record the channel you're watching/at the time.
You don’t need to record. Just a good iptv service with Catchup.
Look up xTeve integration with Plex. You'll need to be able to import some sort of guide (XMLTV) into Plex, which is used to setup recordings though. If you can manage that, it'll work for anything IPTV related.
