You need a tv license if you watch or record live tv. edit - or use iPlayer.

IPTV would cover this. Now, if your IPTV is illegal or lets say in a grey area (i assume most is?) then having a license is kinda pointless i guess.

If you don't have a license, you will probably receive letters threatening you with all sorts. If you ignore them, you'll probably have somebody visit. When you open the door, ask them to identify who they are and who they work for. When they tell you Capita or whoever, close the door and say nothing to them.

Don't speak to them and don't sign anything. You'll be ok.

As far as I'm aware, you don't need one if your not watching live TV (i.e. TV content that is being broadcast live) As Netflix etc. do not broadcast live there should be no licence required.

If you watch Live TV no matter how you view it, online, TV, mobile... or use BBC iplayer to be legal you need a TV Licence.

Now if you don't want to pay, just ignore all the letters and when they come knocking don't answer the door, don't let them in, they have no powers to force entry even with the police.

Same law applies with Bailiffs they have no legal powers to force entry into a residential property. Only a high court writ would allow this.

I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to not have one if you own a tv. Not that it’s likely someone will come knocking on your door. I always believed if you are watching streams online etc that you don’t need one, but that isn’t the case.
