Best way to watch IPTV?

by srajrk

I have Nvidia shield+ Samsung Smart TV (Tizen OS) My iptv provider has given the following options to watch:

  1. Playlist for SmartSTB
  2. Perfect Player
  3. STB emu
  4. Kodi
  5. Android app - both custom and generic which I believe is IPTV Smarters app

Which do you think is the best option?

If you have an m3u URL, there are tons of choices that should work.

You can use the Shield and download StreaminDVR to use as a source for the built-in LiveChannels app on the Shield. This should let you pause/resume streams and also select shoes from the EPG to record. This is a good mix of features and 'native feeling' TV...aka wife approved. Depending on your provider, StreaminDVR can also give you video/audio previews of favorite channels directly in the Shields homescreen, I really like this feature.

Depending on your provider, Perfect Player probably has the most features (catchup, on demand, etc), but has very poor UI/UX. If you're there only one using it, PP is nice once you've found your way around.

I've never been a fan of Kodi, just my opinion.

If you happen to use Plex and have Plex Pass, there are some nice options there too...search xteve for details, does require a computer.

For streaming alone (no DVR), Solar Player is a clean solution, even though I think the dev left, it still works great, looks great and is ad free on Android TV.

Try em all, the shield can handle it.

I don't know what the app is actually called but I have a STB emu that only needs login and password and is hard coded with url but is NOT Mac address driven

Just got TiviMate yesterday for my shield and I feel like the ui/performance combo blows everything else I’ve tried away. It looks like the dev is active in the subreddit and listens to what people want to see in the app and releases updates often. 5$ a year seems like it’s definitely worth it.

Having tried and used them all over the last 2 years, here's what I'd recommend. In order:

TiviMate for M3U URLs. STB emulator app for MAC based accounts. Custom Android apps. Kodi add-ons, Stalker Client, Simple IPTV client. *Smart TV apps, Smart STB, Smart IPTV.

*Smart TV apps are the worst to use as their support isn't that great in my experience

Thoughts on an IPTV app on a Samsung Smart TV?

I do two things. My main way of viewing is through Kodi. I use TVGuideFullscreen as my epg and have a full guide with matching logos for the channels I watch most. I use Webgrab+ and xmlTVlistings to generate the guide data.

Here's what it looks like. https://i.imgur.com/j7RYi9f.png

But for other channels like some US regionals or foreign, I just use Tivimate. I like to watch Wake Up Montana in the mornings, but there's really no need to put it in the TV guide, so I'll just click the Tivimate link and watch it from there.

Shield : M3u via Tivimate but Tivi doesn't support catchup. Formuler Z8 : MOL2 MAC portal, MOL2 xcodes. MOL2 supports catchup and VOD which is a big plus. Have tried Perfect Player, STB emulator, OTT, and Smarters on the shield but seem to find my way back to Tivimate mainly because I find it to be very quick changing streams and also allows concurrent services to be active/integrated into a single EPG via the all playlist favorites function.

What is your provider?

I just got a Formuler Z8, after spending the last decade of using Kodi.

Formuler is miles easier and cleaner, more polished but it isn't perfect. I can see why people like the enigma boxes for a pure PVR experience, but I like what I can do with Android.

No messy coding, regular updates, Android apps and I control it remotely if I want to record something.

At the end of the day, you don't need a powerful Android box because loading m3u and MAC portals is never going to change. If your box works well now, it'll work well forever.

So I'm happy enough for now, unless something even better comes along.

agree smart-STB on Samsung or LG Smart TV. Great interface . no extra boxes or remote, very slick. Only 28USD for lifetime and recommed iptvfuture.com for IPTV streaming services
