Best IPTV App for Android TV OS

by allbranstark

So for the last year or so I have been using a Formuler Z7+, paid a fortune on the provision I would be able to use it not just for the IPTV functionality - which works relatively well - but for the android and associated functionality that brings. Needless to say it has been issue after issue and I am planning to switch device.

This time I think I'm going to go for one of the Mi Box or Nvidia Shield devices, which run Android TV OS - meaning I can rely on it to be more functional overall.

The issue I have is not knowing which app will be best to use to give me similar functionality to MYTVOnline, ie TV catchup, VOD, EPG etc. Have no issues with buying an app if I know it's going to be functional, but there are just so many apps which show up as options.

(I do not wish to use M3U apps like Perfect Player, in my experience they tend to be a lot less reliable than using the portal, as well as often being further behind in the live coverage than portal also.)

TiviMate is a good IPTV app. You can have any IPTV subscription.

Stb emulator works fine with the shield, also no issues with catch up. Depends on your service provider of course.

for iptv, mytvonline is tops, if you have it set up with a provider, why would you use any other android apps for watching anything? mytvonline has movies and vod (provider dependent) no sources to worry about.

ProgTV. Lets you record, supports catchup (I read - haven't used it since I don't think my service provider offers, so can't vouch), subtitles etc. etc. etc. AND has a Windows program so that you can do whatever you want, save/export the settings in Windows, and import them into the Android TV app.

It's a bit buggy in between but still very much usable (they're small glitches, I guess). Requires a bit of tinkering for the first time, but works fairly well otherwise.

Maybe this is why it's not mentioned often? Or maybe people don't know much about it.
