Z8 - Android apps

Hey guys, im currently running two mi boxes which im relatively happy with. I am considering investing in a z8 for my lounge room. Now everyone knows how the my tv online app performs on this box but no one ever discusses other apk's

If I do decide to purchase this box I need to be able to run Plex, kodi and Perfect player (for my smoothstreams sub)

On the my tv app I will be using vaders and a generic "premium" iptv service.

Is anyone using this box for more than just IPTV? How does it perform?

Am I better off just buying a shield?

The biggest advantage to the Shield will be official Android Play store apps. I don't know if you can do things like 4K Netflix on the Z8.

The Shield is just such a smooth, great experience. I think it's well worth the extra $10 on Amazon.

I also recommend checking out "Tivi Mate" for your various services. You need the pro version to have more than one service in the app.

If you get a z8 you will want to use MyTVOnline 2 instead of Perfect Player, that's basically the entire reason to buy it. If you are looking to do more things outside of IPTV, you definitely want to go with the Shield.

I’ve been running a Z8 for quite a while, good stable box. You can get anything from the Google Play Store, such as Perfect Player or TiviMate,(excellent BTW). It runs Plex just fine on Kodi.

Having said all that I just bought a Shield to replace my older Roku and it is a substantial performance upgrade. It also allows me to run TiviMate which the Roku would not so I only need the one box. Very slick interface, has it all but quite spendy compared to a Z8. While I was happy with my Z8 I can now sell it and repurpose my Roku to another TV.

IMHO you get what you pay for, so buy the best you can afford.

Edit: April 30. In reviewing this message I realized that I made a mistake in my original reply. I own a Formuler Z7+, not a Z8, which is the new model. I apologize for the error. Everything I said stands, it is a very good box & the company has good support and user forums, they just updated the software today, and it has served me well.

The Formuler devices are great if you plan on using their MyTVonline app to watch IPTV. You can access the play store and download other programs such as Perfect Player, Smarters, Tivimate etc. Keep in mind the Z8 isn't licensed so don't expect to get 1080p or 4k on legitimate apps like Netflix/YouTube etc
