New Guy To IPTV

by ccigas

Hello everyone, I am new to IPTV so I just have some questions about some of what everyone is talking about. I have a few services I want to try so this post isn't about what IPTV service to try.

I keep seeing m3u and tivimate all over r/IPTV and r/IPTVReviews but no idea what they are. Would someone be able to explain them? From what it seemed, they are some way of just watching streams or organizing favorites from one or multiple services into one guide?

I also have no idea what EPG is, if someone could explain that as well.

Also I have FireTVs that I would use, is that considered a MAG/STB device? I don't think so just would like to cover it all.

Thank you

m3u = url given to you by service provider to access channels

tivimate = application to watch channels accessed via your m3u (other applications such as smarters, perfect player etc are available)

epg = electronic program guide

FireTV can access via m3u or mag connection depending on what client application you are using (eg. perfect player=m3u, stb(emu) is a MAG emulator using MAC connection

So tivimate is an app to resolve m3us which are playlist can host multiple m3us making it efficient at switching between services. Important to note current release lacks catchup if that's big for you may want to test something else out but definitely great and should atleast be tested.

As far as epg stands for electronic program guide. And is basically an xmltv file similar to m3u that youd upload in an m3u resolver.

As far as an stb (set top boxes) usually are just boxes made for iptv like boomerang formuler buzz mag and avov almost exclusively. But any android box can use stb emulator which is basically a clone of mag boxes so and really most prominent way of using mac accounts.

As far as difference from mac and m3u it's quite simple

Mac is tied to a devices mac address so loses portability of m3u but also often limits number of connections only exception seems to be vaders.

M3u can be utilized in two formats depending on service m3u links which is the long links and xcodes usually a link for service and username and password. Benefit of xcodes is pulls epg automatically similar to mac so easier setup than just m3u links. Keep in mind xcodes is contingent upon the fact that service uses xtreme codes panels. Some services do not and if that's a format youd like to test may want to ask and make sure.

Hope this clarifies a bit if you have more questions feel free to reply or dm me would be glad to help.

Check with him. He's good with his iptv. M3u is for people customers who use VLC on their pc and Mac is for stb emulator and iptv smarters uses username and password.
