by Asapjoshyy

about to get a firestick 4k and get my first IPTV going... wondering what kind of speeds id need to run this smoothly , since im assuming internet speed is the key to a fast / close to buffer free viewing

currently on following plan but think i may need to upgrade ??

Your internet speed is fine for IPTV.

"assuming internet speed is the key to a fast / close to buffer free viewing". You would be assuming wrong, buffer free viewing is going to factor in the quality/stability of whatever IPTV provider you are using (generalizing to not even factor your hardware beyond Firestick [modem/router] and line quality). So if you do run into buffering or issues, don't blame it on or believe you need 'faster internet', you speeds are far beyond min requirements.

Just for reference the common standard requirement is 5-6M for HD Content & bare bones min for 4k tends to recommend 15 and can range to more modern recommendation of 20-25M.

Most IPTV services aren't pushing 4k, and even if they were, your internet if we are just generalizing "speed" you still have plenty of speed.

" but think i may need to upgrade " --- so no, no need to upgrade. If you run into buffer/issues seek if it's provider before you start upgrading your internet speeds.

Ya that’s lots , a lot of time buffering is from your provider or the host and not your speed I’ve ran flawlessly on lesser speeds at my work but like others saying never hurt to have more speed right !? Haha GL

10/10 is ok but you dont need upload speed for streaming iptv. And if u want to upgrade for that money like u said is ok if u have many devices at home, someone watch youtube someone netflix u iptv etc. Is good to upgrade for five bucks.

I’m on a 4 Mb/s and on most days I’m fine. You shouldn’t have any problems at all with your speed.

For the things you say and use 30 is more the enough... If you dont downl a lot all that crap about more downl is BS !

Whaha...I am on 28k8 for the last months, coming from 200 Mbit it's terrible but I am able to use IPTV and Netflix, though at a lower resolution ;-) Given this ultra low speed it's amazing I am able to watch any stream at all #thisyearbackonspeed

One thing to consider as for speed. How many devices are using that incoming connection. For example you have 60 incoming, 10 devices using 10meg per second apiece now drops you down to 10mbps at your device, if they are all online at once.

So your setup plays a lot into it, I have have 150 incoming feeding 2 Nvidia Shields, 3 computers, 2 phones, 7 WiFi switches, and 2 google minis. I have both my shields set as priority in my routers settings and running on hardlines. Always run hardlines to your streaming box if possible.

The incoming speed number is not the one to worry about, well it is but it isn’t. The speed you have at your device is what is more important. You could have 1gig a second coming in but it don’t mean shit if your only getting 10mbs at the device due to congestion or poor WiFi signal.

I always recommend 20-25mbs minimum at the device for smooth streams. I currently average 48 at both my shields. On the device you will be using, if possible open a webrowser and check your speed, I use fast.com.
