Changing DNS

by inStuffGames

Hello,

I know that if you change the DNS (e.g. Cloudflare) would make a difference in browsing. Would it affect positively IPTV or its not related at all?

Thanks

I don’t believe it’s related at all.

DNS is just the set of servers that your system goes to translate domain names to IP addresses (think of it like a phone book - names to numbers, and vice-versa), and yes, some DNS servers are faster than others, so as u/stprm said, "It 100% can help"

To answer u/asimhot - you 'can' change it at the PC/device level, but it's better to change it at the router level, as that way ALL your systems will use the same DNS.

Here's a really good page to go into it deeper (even has a tool you can use to test with): https://www.howtogeek.com/342330/how-to-choose-the-best-and-fastest-alternative-dns-server/

I changed dns for iptv and buffering went away.. I use cloudflare

BUT each dns is different for everyone so you need to try them all to see which works best for you and your location

your isp dns can see everything you're doing and also many websites are blocked such as pirate bay and other torrent sites

Do you change DNS on your router or your PC/Mobile? (I'm an illetrate guy on these matters)

I changed DNS on my Nvidia Sheild Tv box and it has made a massive difference on the IPTV service I use and has stopped the buffering, but as I understand it it's not as secure as using a VPN, so hence only on the sheild.
