Looking to get my dad a good father's day gift

by harveymooner

Hi all,

Fathers day is coming up shortly in the UK and my dad's birthday is conveniently on the same day. I'm looking to get him something connected via an Amazon Fire Stick but don't know what I should be looking at or for - he likes sports, movies, programs like gold rush for example.

My question is what should I be looking for and what app would be good to use for setting this is.

Many thanks for any help!

There are any number of routes you can go. With the mix you mention you can either seek out an IPTV service with a VOD component and the sports coverage you seek or an IPTV service for the sports plus a third party app like Cyberflix, Cinema HD, and the multitude of others that are out there for the VOD piece. I presume you seek something that requires as little care and feeding as is necessary so would recommend an IPTV provider that offers the VOD component. This eliminates the need for a second application for VOD only as well as the hunt and seek exercise required to find reliable/high quality links for VOD content you would want to watch. While such IPTV providers are not as common anymore there remains a few that at least for now seem undeterred by the dump VOD trend that is occurring.

Gears TV is a straightforward, easy to use service with a great EPG guide. However all channels (including sports) are running at 30FPS with the promise that 60FPS for all sports is forthcoming. This is usually a show stopper for the serious sports fan due to the low frame rate but for a casual viewer it likely will suffice. Gears will run on a firestick and requires minimal care and feeding once up and running. Clear cache occasionally, reset network equipment...however these are normal housekeeping tasks that are necessary for any service/device. If you go the Gears route beware of spoof/scam sites and go directly to the source at https://omarsvideos.com to subscribe.

Outside of Gears there are several m3u based providers that will run fine on a firestick via their designated APK or through third party players like Tivimate, Smarters, Perfect Player, etc. that continue to provide VOD content as part of their service. Some of these can be found via resellers and I would recommend Dr. Beast who can be found at https://discord.gg/5JuTFM

Third party apps for VOD like Cyberflix, CinemaHD, Titanium, etc can all be readily located and installed on a firestick with minimal effort.

Speaking as a father I will also say that your gift is thoughtful and will be appreciated regardless of the route you take to accomplish it!

Be aware many iptv services can be problematic and that you will end up providing support service unless he is IT literate

I did something similar for Father's day last year. My suggestion are for TV box:

  1. x96 mini (with s905w) (25€)

  2. xiaomi mi box (60€)

  3. A95x max (with s905x2) (85€)

On 1) and 3) you have to install ATVXperience. It makes the box looks like an android TV and it is very easy to use. (tested on my father).

The price are taken from eBay searching for European resellers. Of course in China they are cheaper, but I don't think it will arrive in time.

I tried the Amazon fire stick, but there are a lot of ads and it's not as easy to use as an android TV.

As IPTV App install "Tivimate" (there is free version, but I advise to buy the premium at 5€ a year)

For the IPTV Subscription I bought one from AliExpress. Most here on reddit says they are all scam, but It's the third year I bought here for me and other friends of mine and we are all satisfied. I leave in Italy, so my provider is not good for you. My advise is:

  • search for "UK subscription"

  • search only one with 4.5+ star

  • price must be between 45-60€ a year

  • read the comments and most important read the additional feedback (most people leaves 5 stars because the first day it runs well and they can't edit their review, so they left additional feedback)

  • ask for a test. If you find a good provider, ask after few days another test using another account.

  • ask for a coupon or a little price cut (you can save a pair of euro this way)

For editing the iptv list and make it easier to navigate you can try IPTVEditor.com (a software developed by me). You can find more info at /r/iptveditor

Use Tivimate for IPTV on firestick and you'll be fine. Check out /IPTVReviews for a provider
