New to iptv, can someone explain how it works?

by Jwood293

I've only ever used kodi addons such as exodus. I've heard from friends that using an IPTV is the way to go. I have no idea how it works and can't seem to find any explanation anywhere.

I'm running kodi on a laptop so I'm not sure if it's even possible since I hear everyone using firesticks etc. Interested in finding something that can stream Australian paytv channels (foxtel) if possible.

Can anyone link me to a dumbed down tutorial/explanation. Thanks

Welp rip your inbox. Don’t listen to anyone here. Most of us are resellers and lie like shit. Download VLC and get lots and lots of trials. Whenever you get your trial, tell them to send you a M3U link so you can paste it in VLC.

Dumbed down. Its cable TV streaming over the internet. It has a guide, lots of channels.

Reason you hear about the FireStick is because it is super easy to use. For $40 USD you can get a FireStick 4k and thats all you need.

Up side - Lots of channels, some have PPV (or plex folders attached), some have DVR/lookback functions.

Down side - You get what you pay for. Some services freeze or buffer all the time. Good ones dont buffer much but will still sometimes experience issues. Guide most of the time is not great but can easily manage. Operating in a legal grey area, might require a VPN.

You first have to find a provider. One running Foxtel?? No chance.

Once you have found a provider, you need something to run their service on. Kodi, firestick, cheap chinese box, shield, mibox, rasp pi, the options are endless.

Each service will have guides on how to setup

I'm very new to this as well and can tell you what I did for my parents to make it bullet-proof.

  1. Bought them an android box via Amazon. There are a bunch, look for 4+ stars in the price range of $50-100
  2. logged onto the box w/ google play.
    1. Install TiviMate, AND the Pro version of TiviMate. This will be your player. The pro version is NOT a player. Only used to pay and subscribe to for TiviMate.
    2. Install Nova Launcher. I used this to delete ALL the icons on the box's dashboard and only have TiviMate showing. And renamed that app to my Mother's name.
    3. Install Button Mapper. This allowed me to "kill" most of the macro buttons on the remote. Think Netflix, Hulu etc. I made it where if they press "home" and "Netflix" they SHOULD be able to restart TiviMate from the box. If not, the Dashboard will only show TiviMate Icon and she should be able to click on that.
  3. Log on Xtream-Editor.com
    1. Create a user profile
    2. This site will allow you to edit your channel list from a computer and REMOTELY add/remove/amend/change the channels and groups
    3. I alos only have it on one GROUP/List with my Mom's name on it. No need for ALL or Favorites.
    4. Create a Merged List and use that list's M3U on the box you bought . Now you can amend that list on the fly and not disrupt that box.

PRO TIPS to K.I.S.S.:

  1. Only have one "group" of channels
  2. Turn auto launch on in TiviMate
  3. Wired internet is more reliable than wifi
  4. Get a simple remote, less is more
  5. remove all groups that they don't want
  6. Move channels to the ONE group you left
  7. always ask for a free or very cheap trial
  8. only pay per month, not a year plan
  9. A nice, helpful, recommended reseller is worth the extra cost

I think that's it. Good luck!

The easiest way to get it to your TV is probably using a firestick or Android TV box. You can use VLC PLAYER to load M3u on your computer though. We do have a few articles on setting up devices on our blog that may help. https://www.streamstache.com/iptv-tutorials/

Just my 2c on how I stumbled across IPTV - I actually downloaded the IPTV app within the app store on my Samsung TV. I then purchased an IPTV service from eBay ($30/£20 for 1 year) - you provide them your TV's MAC address and they set-up the service to your device - usually instantly. Then sit back and enjoy!

I've replicated this on 4 or 5 smart TVs, old and new, Samsung and LG. You have to pay €5 to activate the IPTV app (one time, for life), have a decent internet connection (ideally connect your TV via ethernet), and hope your IPTV sub provider has good streams.

IPTV is a cheap service to watch live tv or VOD like netflex

You need to have a smart tv or a tv box like amazon firestick , just search ebay or amazon .

Then go to google and search for an iptv provider , there are hundreds of them . try as much as you can for free usually it is a 24 hours trail . if the stream is good with no buffering then close with the right provider

monthly prices are between 12 $ to 15$ ... for cable you pay between 100$ to 200$ per month , that is the main difference between iptv and your cable provider

I need to understand too, all I know is I like the UI of STB emulator and TiviMate... I don’t know how their official sources to download them onto my android box. Then the next thing is how do I pay for a “service” and link it to the app aka UI?

Forget Kodi on your laptop and get yourself either a Formuler Z8 or Dreamlink T3. Either of these boxes have one of, if not the best cable like apps to watch IPTV with. Then for watching movies and tvshows on-demand like you were with exodus, you get one of the many apps, like TeaTV. I stopped using Kodi a long time ago due to the frequent required updating and configuring was a pain in the ass.

Read read and read. Then try trial after trial. From those trials lock in a month on the couple of better ones you have tested. Use a APK or TiviMate. I have two providers. Both setup on TiviMate cause I like it. I still install their APK just in case. Also it never hurts to still play around with a trial here and there. Eventually you'll figure out who sucks, whose reliable and those that aren't worth what they're asking. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

go on youtube so u can see how it works.. yeah I would start with getting a firestick, or if u have the money and want a good fast box.. Nvidia sheild or Formuler Z8 boxes are the best out there now..

mrHex313

Myiptv app from Microsoft store will work on windows with m3u and xmltv links. As far as foxtel I've not seen that channel available.

mrkingpin007

you can use your laptop to watch iptv using kodi or vlc ..

you purchase a iptv channel map called a .m3u which contains all the channels to load into vlc or kodi to watch.

I used to use kodi years ago but found using a android box with a free app called iptv smarters worked much better. Laptops can cause glitches because of other processes running and so I got a cheap box off ebay for $30 which made life easier.

if you want NRL and AFL channels there are a few iptv which have those channels... foxtel sux... haha

I use a cheap $30 box off ebay and it works well ...

One thing is wifi sux so for better buffer free service a wired connection is best.

there are many iptv sellers on here with some foxtel channels but not all .. AFL and NRL and Supercars channel

How about tvip?

Lies to sell a certain quality of service, leading to someone being ripped off no?

That’s what I made out of your comment.

ErrdayJay

I've heard that mag boxes are good, the iptv standard

TvSupreme

Hi,

Mag boxes are great but you are locked into that device one purchased. We recommend android devices such as a firestick... get in touch or request a trial via our website www.tvsupreme.tv we have a mini explanation video on the home page. We can also look into the Australian channels you require
