New to IPTV: Are PVR and subtitles possible?

by mastermindrishi

Hi I am new to IPTV and looking to cancel my cable. I think I get the gist of IPTV. Get an Android Box and then IPTV service.

I am doing this for my parents, they like the oldschool cable tv and the PVR feature, however channels are very limited. They also like subtitles because English is not their first language.

Can anyone suggest any way this would be possible? And to keep our experience as simple as possible, my parents are not savvy with tech. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for a rookie like me regarding Android Boxes as well.

Thank you.

EDIT: I meant to say my parents like watching English content (mostly British shows). They find it hard to understand with the accent, hence they watch English subs.

With IPTV a few random channels are provided with subtitles but not that can rely on. However if the channel originally broadcast with fixed subtitles (such as an Arabic channel broadcasting an American movie then you will get the Arabic subtitles.
PVR functionality is technically feasible but not 100% reliable, probably not something that you parents would be able to figure out.
Your better option may be for your parents to watch TV channels that are in their native language.

The formuler z8 is a great box. And there really no need to record anymore. Alot of the iptv services have catchup witch u can watch programs that were aired upto 7 days.. I use IPguys I pay $34 for 3 months

If you need subtitle, some IPTV android apps support that as long as the source channels got subtitle, notably Tivimate and IPTV Extreme. In my experience, most USA channels have subtitle (still depend on the source of IPTV providers). As for PVR, I heard you can record with ProgTV android app, though I never use it. Some IPTV services offer recording (though you need the plan with more than 1 concurrent stream or so) or catchup (Helix got catchup with lots of channels). So technically, subtitle is more about which android app you use and the PVR/catchup depends on the IPTV service

About the only reliable way I've come across to DVR is to use Emby. Apps and boxes make the attempt but more often than not, they fail. I don't do much with DVR but I record a show daily just to insure the DVR works as intended. Popular events such as fights and championship games don't DVR to well due to any buffering pretty much stops the recording, and almost every provider will encounter some buffering during those types of events.
