New to IPTV, looking to cancel Cable

by FesteringGooch

Hi, I don't know much about IPTV, but we currently have Cable TV and are looking to see if we should cancel it (I'm in Vancouver, BC). We don't watch very many channels at all, just a few Cantonese channels and a couple local ones.

  1. What is the best device to use? We have need 2 for the 2 1080p TVs we have, not connected to any PC. Obviously looking to spend as little as possible but don't want to spend extra for something that is overkill, since these will be for my non-tech savvy parents and grandmother.

  2. At a minimum we would like these Cantonese 2 channels: Fairchild East/West, Fairchild 2 HD. It would be a bonus to have Global TV BC, Sportsnet, TSN in HD also if possible. What are some recommended providers that have these channels?

  3. Should I sign up with providers using m3u or MAC? I don't really understand how it works, but if using m3u, can you watch the channels on 2 different TVs?

  4. Typically how much bandwidth is used if for example watching a channel in 1080p? We have a 300 down/15 up which is more than enough but I'm just curious how much download speed is used.

Thanks!

Dont sign up for anything yet untill you pick out the box you want. I would personally go with somthing like the buzz TV box, once it's set up, it's easy to use, and it will have a cable feel. Buzz TV, or a formuler z8 .. I have the formuler z8 and it's a great box, but it's a bit pricey, u want something cheaper, buzz TV box is the next best thing.. and they use mac for sign up!!

Also before u sign up, make sure you get a trial for there services, because there are some that are completely garbage. U will just be tossing ur money out the window.. good services that i use or have used that are decent I think u would like

Ipguys, expresstv , ok3, gold those are mac based

Magic TV now , dreamstreams , panoptic M3u based and work really well..

Anyway good luck, once u find the box and service you will be really happy

  1. couple firestick 4ks as other guy recommended.
  2. i recommend best buy iptv as they are the guys i'm with, but i don't think they have those cantonese channels. they do tend to have a lot of channesl from other countries though including many local Canadian channels. they cover the Philippines pretty well which is our families interest.
  3. I use M3u. you need a new M3u playlist per TV if you want to be using both tvs at the same time. In my case this means two subscriptions.
  4. well my connection 1.4mpbs at one location is not good enough to handle 1080p content. But good enough for like 480p content. A lot of providers are gonna be providing that kind of pixel count for foreign asian local channels. For American premium movie channels and American networks you tend to get the 1080p.

Not all channels are necessarily reliable, sometimes certain channels are just never up. But I find plenty to watch and the Filipino channels tend to work well which my wife loves. And the cost is much less than Canadian cable. So I've been very happy with it.

I use tivimate pro but it doesn't show the tv guide and I couldn' t get it working. Your provider may tell you which app to use to get it working with the tv guide and it may come with a fee for the program so wait before you buy

All opinions are my own here, this has just been my experience I am relaying to ya

  1. Get you a couple Firestick 4ks
  2. Your internet speeds are more than enough
  3. Get trials and lots of them till you find the best service that works for you
  4. Only do month to month. Never sign up for more no matter how good the deal seems. Services come and go with no warning.
  5. Did I mention get trials?
  6. Stay away from Mac only services

I find to have best results with iptv oriented boxes like buzztv, formuler. but m3u files would also work just fine and it eill give you freedom to use in your phone/pc which MAC oriented accounts wont let you.. So it also depends how much you are willing to spend and what you prefer.

Also there are multiple m3u providers that gives you multiple connections around $10 so you can use same account on both TVs together and even in your phone...

So do search around what suits you before spending money, i cant help you with service name because i don’t know the channels you are talking about so don’t know who carries them

  1. You will get a ton of different answers from everyone. What device suits one person, may not suit the next.
  2. You will have to do your research and ask resellers/providers for channel lists.
  3. M3U for 1 account, multiple connections would be best.
  4. 300 down is plenty.
