You will need something like a Formuler z8 box in order to do that effectively like a set top box.

Maybe pause, rewind and record on VLC or MX Player but Fast Forward is impossible (thats the future, if you’re talking about live tv).

Or maybe tvmosaic or emby, I use both and work well for pause/forward and recording. The challenge is the EPG, channels and logo configuration.
