I’ve been hearing a lot about the dreamlink t3 box. It’s $150 and I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on getting it, but it will be the next box I get.
Box depends on your budget. Top of the range is nVidia Shield and Formuler Z8.
Lower priced Android boxes exist, but the remotes generally suck. Personally, I’m a big fan of the Amazon firesticks. Cheap with great remotes and overall a great experience.
As for VOD, I’d look into Plex. Check out /r/plexshares

Check out the BuzzTV XPL3000 2018 edition. It runs Android 7.1 Nougat and the BuzzTV app has a really nice and modern UI.
Also they update it very regularly with new features.
